I just installed the FASS DDRP and I want to know how necessary it is to install the fuel filter that comes with it and how often should it be replaced? What pressure on your fuel gauges have you all been getting with the DDRP?

Should have a filter between tank and pump. I used an inline filter at the tank. FP is 18@ idle and no less than 13@ wot. My pump is mounted on the frame rail just forward of fuel tank.

My DDRP is mounted where the dead one was on the engine. It also is about 18 idle and it can pull it down to 13 when pulling 12,000# up a grade. PapaTom

I'm sure the fuel filter is a good thing, and required by FASS for the 3 yr warranty, which I am well over, but mine has never been pre filtered. I thought about doing it a handful of times, its mounted on the framerail right in front of the tank, but the day I go to put it in something will go wrong with the pump with my luck, so I just keep on truckin. Pressure is about the same as everyone elses, I have gotten mine as low as 9 psi, but thats when the truck is screaming, generally stays around 14-15 cruising

I would definitely place the pump on the frame as this subject has been beat to death more than I can count, but the long and short of this subject is that all liquids are better pushed than pulled by any kind of pump. ie, put the pump on the frame near the tank!! Filter,YES and if you put the filter between the tank and pump also on the frame, it also will below the fuel level in the tank and will fill itself and the pump will always have head pressure on it from the fuel level in the tank!! by using the filter on the tank and also using the stock filter in its stock location with a pressure gage between there and the VP44 you will always know the status of the fuel pressure at the VP44. If you put 2 fuel pressure sending units on the inlet and outlet of the stock filter as I have on my 99 with a switch to look at input and output, You can see when the stock filter and the filter on the frame needs replaced. Just some thoughts and a short look how I did my installation.

My FASS DDRP has good pressure until WOT, Max Boost and 2500 rpm, then the pressure drops to ZERO. The stock carter did not have this problem and FASS specs the DRPP at 2.5 times the flow. Stock motor with the 60hp Edge EZ box.

Is it a flow problem due to plumbing? What I have from the tank forward, I've removed the in-tank screen, stock pipe to frame area, 3/8 stiff rubber hose, 3/8 NAPA inline filter, direct fitting into/out of the pump on frame (no banjos or screens), 3/8 hose to stock filter, direct fitting into filter (no banjo), a clean filter, then stock hose to VP44 pump. I have the vulcan filter to pump big 1/2" line on order, but that's my last ditch effort.

I did have a voltage problem with the ECU and wired a separate relay/fuse from battery that is not controlled by the ECU.

Everything I've done has improved pressure and made it run less erratic, but it always has Zero pressure with this DDRP pump. Do I have to get a bigger pump?

I strongly believe in a filter before the pump, but I don't like the screen they put in the inlet fitting. I use a 50 micron inline fuel filter from napa between the tank and pump. All it really has to do is keep trash out of the pump. Your stock filter will take care of the rest.

There are two threaded plus on the top of the filter housing. The inner is after filter, the outer is pre filter. Inner being the closet to the engine. I attached a grease gun flex hose to the inner fitting, and attached the sending unit to it, zip tying the sender to the wiring harness along the firewall. No engine vibes affecting the unit.

The 1/2" Vulkan Filter to Pump line fixed it. Most of the time it will peg the gage at 17 psi, it only drops to 13 psi at max boost/throttle/rpm.
I can only assume that I never noticed the drop in pressure with the old Carter pump?
