Here is the nut they welded on the mainshaft

I recommend that you get the fully splined mainshaft, fifth gear, and nut from Std. Trans. or some other supplier. Welding damages the heat treat of the shaft, and the smooth part under fifth gear allows the gear to rock after it gets hammered and indented, so the nut will get spit off. This is covered in Issue 30 of TDR.

Thanks for the reply I have updated several with the fully splined shaft because I've seen them so bad that a couple tack welds wouldnt even hold the gear on .

Here she is assembled and ready to go new gear new nut since the shaft had been welded before I wen ahead and tacked it in 4 spots shaft is jink anyway I would never do that if it hadn't been done before
