I just extended the tube to rest lower. While at it, I also put an extension on the filter water drain hose. Tired of sloppy frame parts, and smelly shoes!

Hello John,
I read this post and I'm very interested in this ventilation kit. I get constant drips, I've lost the original cupholder, and have grease along the front of the engine. This seems like a good fix, despite the price. Can you attach pictures of your installation of the kit? I'm trying to figure out where it would be mounted. Also pics of the hose connections? Thanks so much!!

Hi Tracy,

I'll see if I can get some photos, but that may be difficult due to the cramped location.

The kit comes with complete step-by-step installation instructions and fits perfectly. It mounts in the exact same location as the original vent (replaced it) and the only visible difference is the new metal drain tube that extends downward, then wraps around to the driver's side of the engine and then into a port (hole) on the crankcase. The only slightly difficult part is popping out a small metal plug (a cap) which covers the hole in the crankcase where the metal tube will go in... it's in a cramped area. It may help to loosen or temporarily remove a wiring harness clamp found in this area.

If you do a search here on the forums, you'll find several discussions on installing this kit from back when it was a popular upgrade years ago.

Best regards,

John L.

Here it is.

Did a search and found these instructions. I hope it works, I'm not that good with computers. It looks like it fits 24 valve 2nd gens 1998-2002.

The 12 valve 2nd gens don't seem to have as severe a problem as the 24 valves (rad contamation), but if it would have fit the 12 valves, I would have gotten one.

Didn't work. I can't figure out how to insert previous threads. Now you know why I prefer to drive nothing newer than a 2nd gen.

If some one can figure it out, there was a thread started 02-12-2007 by member J Rocky. There is link in post #4 by member WestTN that has a link with clear instuctions.

I hope this helps a little.

Hey guys,
I got the kit, now I'm assessing how to install. Everything is straightforward in the instructions, until I get to opening up the "port boss". I think I've located it, but I have never opened up a port boss before. It says to remove the "plug" and then stick a pin it to make sure its clear. I've never done this procedure before... maybe something like opening up a freeze plug on a gasoline engine to install a engine oil heater? Before I do anything I want to make sure I don't do something that is the point of no return. A pic of the port boss vent line connection would be helpful. Or explain the procedure to access the port. Anyhow, looking for tips. Thanks again!

CCCRAM,

I've read there may be variations in their design, but my 2001 had a plug which essentially looked like an inverted hat... think derby hat. All I had to do was get a thin blade screwdriver under the lip of the plug and it popped right out with very little effort.

Others have reported encountering plugs designed more like a traditional freeze plug (i.e.: no brim). To remove that, they had to thread a small diameter bolt (possibly 8mm) into the plug then pry on the bolt head to pop it out. Someone else mentioned they simply knocked the plug down into the oil pan figuring it wouldn't go anywhere or cause harm.

I guess you'll have to figure out what kind of plug you have then decide how to deal with removing it.

Best regards,

John L.
