Factory Spray In Bedliner repair...worth it to warranty it? Updated AGAIN!!

To my surprise I just had a piece of my factory Spray In Bedliner peel off the tailgate. Truck is only about 5 months old with 7k miles. The broken piece is about 2" by 2" in size and peeled off the center of the tailgate and not the edge. I have not ever seen this before and I've had a few trucks with spray in liners that have been used pretty hard. I did use the truck to haul some household trash to the dump including an old metal grille that did contact this portion of the tailgate.

I would prefer to repair myself but might be better off letting Ram warranty this but boy do I hate to visit the dealer and waste all that time.

Anyone ever fix something like this themselves? Are there any simple repair kits?

Updated below.

Thanks.

Take it to the dealer!!! Chris

Take it to the dealer. I was somewhat disappointed that mine is only 1/10 inch thick, but so far it has stuck well. I found out about the thickness when I cut the 3.5" hole for the B&W 1314 gooseneck hitch ball.

Yes I figured that was the right answer. If other areas start giving me problems then the whole thing may need to be resprayed.

Update: Took truck to dealer. They took pics and sent to Ram. Truck will be repaired under warranty with a repair kit for spray in liners which is currently on order.

Now that I know the spray in liner is very thin I know I would definitely want to get it done by Line-X. Having a factory liner to only be 1/10 of an inch is pretty sorry for a 50k plus truck! I will be sure to keep this in mind when I get a new truck in a few years.

My '01 was Rhino lined. It was thick, tough, and resilient. That was then.... My new truck has what is called "Full Metal Jacket." It is line-X but a much thicker application and I am very happy with it so far. Installed between Kent and Auburn just off SR167.

My trucks previous owner must have never used the bed for much because in the year and a half that I've owned it I've noticed the thin, poorly applied bed liner is breaking off in a few places including the tailgate. I may try and remove it this summer and get it replaced (since I have no warranty).

Ok after waiting a couple of weeks the dealer called to say that the Ram Factory spray in liner repair kit was being ordered from the supplier. He did not know who the supplier was but I am thinking it may be 3M. So when the service manager called I told him I got tired of waiting, fixed it and not to bother. He said because this is so rare to happen that he may send me the repair kit for free.

Anyway this is 2 weeks after I took it in to the dealer and the area where the liner chipped off was already rusting. So I said screw it. I sanded it down and sprayed bedliner from a can into the defect. It is not a perfect repair but I could not stand the rust and lack of a real time line for repair. I considered having a local Line X guy repair it but when I called he could not tell me a price, timeline to repair and he did not even know the Factories offered spray in bedliners. That surprised me a little.

If the same area chips off again or if I have further problems I may bite the bullet and have a more formal job done by the local Line X guys. Sort of disappointed in all of this to be honest.

I've had my mine line xed for 7 years and no problems, plus i got a lifetime warranty on it , as long as i own the vehicle, plus i have a new member-volunteer-on my disaster team that owns a line x shop, Monte

In the Mopar accessory data book it lists Mopar bedliner small repair kit for making small repairs to the factory liner. PN is 82212339.
Here is the sales pitch from the catalog.
Proper care and cleaning of Spray-On Bedliners is periodically required. During ownership, the shine and luster of the Spray-On Bedliner
can fade from oxidation, road dirt, heavy-duty hauling and hard water stains. Weathering and UV exposure will lead to fading and loss of
gloss over time. To help keep your customer`s bedliner looking and performing well, rinse all loose dirt from truck bed and clean with
Mopar Spray-On Bedliner Conditioner at least twice a year. For small Spray-On Bedliner repairs, a 200 ml Dual Cartridge of the
Spray-On Bedliner material is available. Small Repair Kit also includes mixing tip and a small textured pad.
