New Wheels

I just change up to a set of Accuride 19.5 x 6 wheels with 12ply 8r19.5 tires that are 33.5 inches tall, they have drop my highway rpm's by 100 at 70mph over my stock wheels with 235/85r/16 tires.

They are the wheels I got from you, and believe it or not that's the factory chrome finish that was on them, but it took all weekend to polish them up. and Thank You.

Did your 235 85R16s touch sidewalls on the rear in between the duals? I have a crew with 16" wheels and 235 85 r 16s and at 80 psi there is barely an air gap between the tires. I don't like it because they touch with the slightest load on them. Its never cause me any issues, but I wonder if my wheels are not wide enough, or not enough offset for proper gap....

Did your ride change much going from the 16s to 19.5s?

BTW it looks pretty good.

MMiller you have to careful because of side wall contact on the rear duels from what I've been told by people who know more then me say the factory wheels where not meant for 235-85's because there is a lack of offset but I found there are certain that do work out. I was running Firestone TransForce AT tires at 80psi but even then there was not a lot of space in-between the side walls but I could still get my fingers in-between them. So far I have not seen much of a change in the ride.

Well it started life as a W250 the guy I bought it from likes dually's .So he converted it then had the Frame stretched 6 ft inbetween the bed and box he was going to put a big rig sleeper and try and make a Motor home out of it . But he never finished it off . it Sat for 10 yr's like this till I drug it home with me to use for Part's .

What confuses me is the fact that I am running 235-85 r 16 Firestone TransForce A/Ts also(came that way from the previous owner), and they touch with 80 psi in the tires and any load in the bed.....that's why I wonder if the previous owner put some other wheels on it then First Gen Dually wheels. I don't like that they touch and as soon as I get a little more work done to the truck and it gets new tires, it won't be that way......I'd really like to find a set of takes offs from a '13-'14 with Alcolas and 17" rubber. Thanks for the response.

I knew that truck didn't look right, and that explains it.

Michael, the wheels I had where original to my truck, but my truck started off as D350 not the W350 it is now, the wheels are the coined type that are stud piloted for use with 5/8 inch wheel studs, I can go find the part number on them if you want it, but I do know they have the Chrysler penstar stamped on them, and for some reason the Rockwell logo.

The other thing i'm out to do with these wheels is longer tire life, with the 16" firestones I got 20 months out of them about 60,000 miles, and i hope to get better fuel mileage because of the taller tires.

Wow! So thats a gen 1 with 19.5s eh? Wow. The front doesn't look like it changed much! Likely due to the internet screen aspect, but the rear wow what an improvement!

The front tires are only a little taller then my 16's about 1 1/4 inches more, the rears are around 1 3/8 taller then the 16's. and thank you it was all done by hand.

Very nice!! I like! That must be some thick chrome plating to buff up like that! That looks good. I prefer the taller sidewall for ride, but you could do that with a taller 19.5.... then trim the fenders, add a "little" arch to the springs, pump the pump, and..... and.... and......oh, never mind... :-laf

I would like 19.5s just for the ply rating... less mesquite thorn flats and most likely no puncture blow outs.

Just a random fact for anyone reading.... the 2000+ Dodge 3500 wheels will center pilot on 91 and later dually rears, and you pick up 1/2" backspacing per wheel.... Go for the Alcoa aluminums for the 2000+, and you have an aluminum that also gets the increased 1/2" backspacing.... Works pretty good with Cooper 255/85R16s... (33x9.00x16). Helps with the gearing and flotation if you run offroad a lot.

I did some looking before I got my 8r19.5's that are 33.5 tall and 8in wide and the only way to get a taller side wall is to run a 265/70r 19.5 they are 34.5 tall and 10in wide or 285/70r 19.5 that 35.5in tall and 11in wide, I pretty sure that the added sizes of those two bigger tires would rub the fenders on stock trucks. As for the chrome its 24 years old back when they still made good stuff.

Performance update
I cant give you a mpg update, but I can tell you that my rpm's are down 150 on the highway I'm running around 1900rpm at 70mph and around 700 to 800 on the egt's. I have found that I do have to down shift into 4th now to clime some of the bigger mountains around, I still have plenty of power but the egt's start to get to hot. The truck does ride a little harder now but that's to be expected.
