A while back there was a discussion that explained Smarty torque managment and timing adjustments in plain English. Now that I'm on my way to owning a J06 and I have aftermarket injectors, I want to make sure I understand how to properly set my timing and rail pressure. I have a NV5600 and double disc clutch so TM isn't really a concern, but I want to be conservative with timing and rail pressure and I'm not e actly sure I understand the order of the numbers and what settings would be recommended for my setup.
There was a thread sometime back with good detail, but I sure can't find it now that I need it.

This should be the timing map for the REVO settings. These are start numbers as the timing curve is dynamic.

TM1 12* (stock)
TM2 21* (default)
TM3 18*
TM4 16*

Even with larger injectors TM2 can be run with good results as long as you don't get into excessive knock. Timing advance becomes an issue with larger injectors in the upper rpm ranges, 3k and above. If one drives to keep the rpms at a max of 2500-2600 rpms TM2 seems to be fine and will clean up extra fuel right off idle. The more you reduce the timing with heavier fueling the more smoke you get on the bottom end. Ends up being a mix of smoke and turbo spool for your setup to make things work correctly, not the same on every truck.

Rail pressure 1-3 is just a faster ramp to the curve to max of 23.5k, but, if you lift quickly those spikes can exceed 30k psi easily. RP 2 on the lower SW's works pretty well for a little extra power and efficiecny but once it gets into SW5 or above RP starts sitting at 20k or more at cruise speeds. That is a bit much for extended driving. Different trucks react differently so you have to try the settings at times to see what works best and looks usable by the gauges.

I found and read the smarty resource forums, but found them less informative than TDR. I just want to be clear that I'm buying a smarty jr ... Which I have high hopes for. I'm pretty happy with available power, but I want a smoother torque curve and I want the engine to feel like it "revs" easier. Cerb, that was among the best descriptions I've seen.

You are right, Smarty Forum tends to dial in on the latest developments (UDC), just giving you another resource.
