I currently run Michelin LTX MS/2 tires and love them. They're OEM at 265/70-17. I am going to need new tires within the next 5k-10k miles (65k on them now).

I'm planning on having a Carli 3" system installed in the near future. With that system the OEM size tire will look silly.

Is anyone running 285/70-17 tires (LTX MS/2 come in this size) with a 3" system? Or would 285/75-17 be better? I really don't want a 35" tire that most recommend. But I don't want the truck to look dumb either.

Also, will the larger tires work with the stock suspension height for now?

Anyone have pictures of similar?

In addition to my signature, my truck has 3.73 gears.

A 35" tire will fit stock, Ive actually seen a small 37" on a stock truck. A 285 will look a little funny but will work, third gens have really big wheel wells that make anything smaller than a 35" tire look small. Im running 37" tires with a 3" Thuren.

I'm running LT285/70R/17 with about 1" of lift on the front and the tire is 32.8" tall. I think they look fine on my truck but 35" tires I would agree will look better with a 3" lift. My next tire will likely be the LT285/75R/70 which is 34" tall. I'm worried about clearance as I run chains on all four at times in the snow.

A 285/75/17 will look better than a 285/70. The 75 is a little taller and doesn't buldge the sidewalls out like a 70 will.

Which tire is worth while in 285/75/17 then? I'm guessing 34-35" tires are ok on a stock suspension for now?

I have used both sizes on my truck befoer I moves over to 19.5 tires. Either will look better then the stock tire size, with the larger diameter looking even better, they are just sooooooooooo dam expensive and don't get near enough mileage, at least in my neck of the woods. It's REALLY too bad that Michelin does not make a 285/75/17 E.

Not much of a selection in 285/75/17 which is the biggest downfall. I got a deal on a set of Nitto Tera Grapplers so decided to try them even though there are a ton of mixed reviews. I would say they are a well rounded all around kind of tire, they are adequate in snow and light mud. Not as good as a dedicated mud or snow tire but for what they are I am satisfied so far. I have a set of Centramatics so I'm not sure how hard they would have been to balance but I have been up to 90mph a few times on the freeway and they are smooth as glass. Time will tell how well they wear but so far at just under 10k miles they are still good and flat across the treads. I just rotated them for the first time the other day and inspected them closely and so far so good.

You do understand with any lift with stock control arms you have less clearance than stock ?

What systen have you chosen?

I'm getting ready to install Carli control arms as part of my front end upgrade. They indicate they are a 1/2" longer than stock and that you can run up to 37" tires. I'm hoping that if I do move up to the taller LT275/75R/17 that I won't have any problems with the new control arms. My prior tire was a Toyo in LT285/70R/17 and I had one side rub when my chains got a little loose.

That should fix you up nicely.I run 37's or 35's depending on my intended use,

OK, another question on the tires...

Found this calculator to figure out my gear ratio with the 285/75/17 tires.

Playing with different speeds, it seems rather low (1285rpms) for 55mph. 80mph shows as 1869 (both I have .63 as the 6th gear on the 68rfe).

Those rpms sound about right for 3.73 gearing?

Just concerned about keeping the engine in the sweet spot.
