After picking up my 96 2500 from a 2-3 month visit to my favorite body shop [ N. Ind winters and 15 years of construction site issues reversed for awhile] The abs, 4wd and brake lite are coming on . Sometimes 1, maybe 2, or all 3 occasionally none, no driving or stopping issues. I took it into my favorite mechanic for his opinion, He said it was the left front wheel speed sensor, and about $600.00 to fix. Apparently it is somewhat difficult to procure. Can anyone lend some input on this and or confirm diagnosis please?
Thank You

The 4WD lamp is controlled by a switch on the CAD and that's it. That's a separate problem. The ABS and brake lamps turn on to indicate a problem with the ABS. It could be as simple as low brake fluid (even if it's above MIN). A real scanner (that can access the ABS module) can give an exact reason. Was 4 wheel ABS around in '96? Rear wheel ABS was the norm (with a sensor on the rear diff).

I have the same issue except for the 4WD light. My lights came on after an axle seal replacement. The shop replaced the sensor but it didn't fix the problem. Now I'm told that the "tone ring" in the hub may be bad and that is what is throwing the code and making the lights come on. Sounds like your mechanic is going to replace the hub bearing which should come with a new sensor installed.

Spendy part. Discontinued through Chrysler, Napa has them available for 300-400+. Ouch. Plus an hour to install (ish).

Im trying to find a link to UNinstalling my ABS. I have a 96 model myself, the ABS on its junk, your better off eliminating it. As soon as i find a link to find out how ill post it

RWAL(back wheels) was standard ABS(all wheels) was an option in 96.

Check to see if your brake lights are working that will set of the abs and brake waring lights.

I think in 1996 the speedo was driven off the transmission speed sensor. In that case you can unplug the sensor on the rear diff and see what happens. Or pull the ABS fuse.
