I just purchased a new 2014 2500 6.7 diesel 2500 ST 4x4 July 14th, I have noticed that the engine oil temp. runs hotter than engine coolant at highway speeds unloaded. When I park the truck and let the turbo cool and wind down (at least 2 minutes), I noticed that engine temp and oil temps start to climb instead cooling down. In my first 600 miles I have already popped a codes P24ED Ammonia Sensor) U0147-00 (Lost Communications with Telematics Gateway) and C151D-00 Tire pressure Sensor Location Undetermined).

The local Dodge dealership here cannot get me in to correct these codes until next week and said that unless the "Check Engine Light" aka MIL Light is Blinking I can continue to drive the truck.

Is this normal for during the "cool down" period for the temps to climb?

I had a 1999 5.7 235 HP diesel 2500 for 15 yrs with 181K miles and just sold it this past weekend. These new trucks have so much computer electronics installed and it will take me sometime to catch up with the New Technology.
Back in 99' I became a TDR member and learned so much valuable information. I suppose that I can be classified as a "recycled member". I look forward to learning all about this new truck.
Best regards,

Thats how my 2013 has been. When you think about it, the internals are hot, and the coolant is circulating thru the block pulling the heat off. Thus it will be a bit hotter then the coolant,which is circulating via engine RPM-water pump. Once the engine is at idle, the coolant is only circulating at 800 RPM vs 1500+ rolling down thee road. Less air getting sucked under the hood, and the engine temp will go up momentarily spike and then start falling. The next time you idle, put your RPM's at 1000-1200 and you'll see it cool much quicker.

no load or towing, as 12v98 said its a waste cooling it down.

The turbo in your 1999 didn't have a engine coolant-cooled bearing housing; your 2014 does. That is a major difference when it comes to bearing coking - we idled the 2nd gen trucks to let the oil flow through the turbo bearings and shaft to cool them. That isn't necessary in the 2014 under normal conditions. I'll idle mine for awhile if I've been towing the 5th wheel and gone from heavily loaded to idle conditions, but otherwise I just shut it down and let the coolant in the bearing housing moderate the temps.

Does the 2013+ have a different turbo? The HE351VE used from 07.5-12 has a water cooled electronics section, but not a water cooled bearing.

Your owner's manual tells you the cool down period for the turbo. Less than one minute for empty in stop and go traffic.

When you are not moving your temperatures will climb: not as much airflow through the radiator / coolers.

Dave;
I purchased a new 2014 6.7 diesel 3500 4x4 in Aug of 2014 and it has been in the shop 4 times for the same thing I am starting to think Dodge has no Idea what they are doing at this point they just keep telling me it just needs a up grade. On the 4th time in the shop Dodge replaced the hole computer board telling that it was bad the funny thing is that it only time it acts up is when my trailer is hooked up and I am driving over 100miles. So when you find out please let me know I would love to shove it in Dodge face also my self lol good luck..
