Can't find horn "spot" on the steering wheel in an emergency...

After a truck fire...what is still useful?

Are any of the 2014 18" wheels a direct upgrade for the stock 17's on my 04.5? I'm getting close to needing tires, so now is my chance. I'm only interested in factory alloys. There seem to be a bunch of deals on takeoff packages floating around. I have smarty jr., so I can change rolling diameter if needed.

Thanks

As long as you don't have a spin-free kit they should bolt right up.

They are very nice wheels with a higher load rating too, rated at 3,500lbs.

Are the wheels then what detreme the 7K RGAWR, as the tires I saw were rated to 3750. Snoking

I have a set of the KORE (Kroeker) 18" Weld wheels made specifically for our 3 gen trucks with factory off-set and backspace,....for sale. They were on the truck for about a yr, if any of you guys are interested.

Look on Ebay There are a few options for factory wheels and tires listed on there and the prices are not too bad best of all you can contact the seller and make an offer. That's how I got my 6 spoke factory alunium wheels for 3/4 what was asking price.

That is my understanding.

There has always been a question to the weight rating of OEM wheels, many feel it was higher than the 3195lbs the tires had but nothing was published or stamped. Now the bodybuilder website has weight limits, the Alum 17x8" say 3200 and the 18" wheels say 3500.

7K lbs is a nice increase, I find it easy to bust 6K but going over 7K happens less frequently.

Here's some pics of my 04.5 that I just sold with 18" OEM wheels from a 2014. I think they look great on these trucks and lot's of E-rated tire options for 18" as well. I paid $700 for the wheels & tires.

You hit on a very good point, the new wheels look like the "center cap" is now more integrated in the casting of the wheel than before, which would interfere with a free spin conversion.

Thanks to the others for the input and the pics of the trucks, the newer wheels seem to look right at home. I'm going to the Carlisle Truck show in a few weeks, so I may wait and see if I can come across a deal at the show on a set of takeoffs or maybe a free spin kit, I'll see what deal presents first.

I'm still kicking around the free spin kit. Most guys who have done it seem to have no regrets, I'm just not sure I can justify the coin, although I do plan on keeping the truck for quite some time.

Thanks

You can find after market wheels that are rated at 3600. You need to check each rim size and offset. I've found 9x18 +18 at 3600 while the exact same rim in a 0 offset was only 3425.

You can, but it's not really worth the cost and one of the reasons I now run 19.5's and have 4500lb rated wheels and tires.

That is one of the most worthwhile upgrades you can make to your truck. In addition to picking up several MPG on highway driving, you're saving wear on the front DS and also have 2WD low range if you need it. It also lightens the feel of the steering and you have the benefit of serviceable wheel bearings. I chose the Dynatrac because its made in USA and is Dodge-specific, not a re-drilled Ford spindle as one of the others is.

So I've decided to stay with a 17" wheel so that my options are open for the free spin kit up grade. Now my question is in regards to the factory alloys, were the alloys offered 3 different ways: in matte (or painted finishe), a stamped/crimped on chrome shell and a true polished finished? From the pics online and the descriptions its tough to tell if all the polished wheels are really just an allow wheel with the crimped on chrome shell. I like the look and ease of maintenance of a smooth spoke versus the fancier alloy wheel with the machined grooves.
