One thingk I have noticed with the new truck is a constant ticking from under the truck... If shes been working a little is sounds like her heart rate is elevated cause itll be ticking FAST..
Thinking its got to do with the aftertreatment system as its under the truck..?
Almost sounds like a gas grille igniter ?? Anyone know exactly what it is?

BTW, this is after the truck had cooled down for about 5 minutes I moved it from its previous location to this spot and it idled for about another 5 minutes. Smelled grass burning and happened to look under the truck. We are NOT in a drought condition and it rained over an inch the night before.

Pic wont upload... will try to upload again soon...

You are probably hearing the DEF pump, evidently after you shut the truck off, is has a routine it goes through and runs awhile after shutdown.

As far as the grass fire issue, that has been around since cat converters have been around, grass fires in California caused by hot exhaust pipes don't even make the evening news anymore......

Nope, does it with it running.. not after shutdown...
Im well used to catalysts, but this truck sits higher off the ground than my Ford F550 service truck and the Ford never discolors the grass or causes fires when I have it running for hours in the same area.
There should be no regen active at idle in park mode unless its a manual/forced regen.
Wondering why there is no insulation/isolation shielding on the exhaust to keep heat in??

Regen can happen at idle. If it did not service trucks running hydraulic or high demand electrical would plug the exhaust

The ticking is the DEF pump cycling my 13 does it all the time never noticed it until I was parked next to a building with the window open.

any documentation supporting that that you can provide?, My F model service truck idles for sometimes 10-12 hours and doesnt plug... it just belches crap out when you drive off location at the end of the day and goes into a regen once driving conditions are met.

I get out all the time and leave it running... pretty audible outside the truck.
Sometimes its ticking 4-5 times a second other times its 1 tick every 4-5 seconds.. just different to me as the Ford I drive the DEF system is silent.
On the fire possibility, I have noticed that the Ford I drive has the exhasut system wrapped with heat shields, I didnt remember seeing any on the RAM exhaust...

If it belches crap out the dpf is history

no, they all do it. even since new. If we leave them idling for hours on end running PTO accessories etc... when you get out on the highway at the end of the day, it will be a stream of toxic exhaust smoke for about 1/4-1/2 mile if you just hold it on the floor.. it will clear up and be fine after that. All of them have done this since new...
Whats REALLY bad is that if there are several of us leaving at the same time, if you are following, you cannot breathe that crap without your eyes burning and choking!
I need to video it.. Its usually so bad you cannot see any cars behind you.

Well, I'm not sure that's necessarily a change for the better versus my 2011. My truck will go into regeneration if I leave it idling long enough while hitching or unhitching the 5th wheel. I have to leave it idling with the A/C on because we leave the pets in the truck until my wife has the slides out and the inside of the RV set up enough to take them into the 5th wheel, so this can take some time. There's definitely a change in engine sound and exhaust smell when regeneration begins at idle.

That could be a different fueling strategy since you were in park without the brake being touched and engine at idle condition. Many newer diesels go into an altered fueling map for those conditions to help slow down soot accumulation and excessive fuel consumption when the engine is just no-load idling.

The original 2007 and 2008 6.7's wouldn't regen at idle or slow speeds, but too many people where getting plugged and going into limp mode. In fact this is the main reason I bought my used 05 vs a new 08 for the same price, same options, I do a lot of slow speed hunting miles for a week or more at a time (never over 25) and didn't want to get stranded...

Anyhow Dodge/Cummins came out with the Net Zero and Net Reduction. I know at least thru 2012 it would bump the idle to 900 rpms and do a very slow regen, not sure how the 13+ trucks work.

This is the blurb that accompanied the software release.

The latest ECM software includes a new extended idle feature to accommodate the extended idle times present in some duty cycles. This feature may help to reduce the
accumulation of soot in the exhaust aftertreatment system when the engine is idling for an extended period of time. Briefly how this feature works. As needed, the engine enters an idling mode which dramatically reduces the rate of soot accumulation in the diesel particulate filter (called “Net Zero”). Further, under extended idle periods of **5 minutes or longer**, the engine enters a mode which reduces the amount of soot accumulated in the diesel particulate filter (called “Net Reduction”). While in these modes, the idle speed increases to 900 RPM for a period of time. The idle speed may return to normal idle speed and then return to 900 RPM to repeat this cycle during very long idle periods. These modes occur automatically depending on the need to regenerate the DPF as long as the vehicle is not driven over 20 MPH or operated at high load. If the vehicle is driven over 20 MPH normal mobile desoot will occur automatically.
