Cell Phone Tower Question

World War II verteran Sgt. Robert Lash passed

Bill, What I enjoy the most since my retirement is getting up early, go for a long walk, have breakfast with my wife, drink coffee while reading the morning paper then deciding what to do for the rest of the day. What I do for the rest of the day is yard work and mostly working in my woodworking shop making a pile of sawdust.

I made the two birdhouses and donated them to a charitable shelter. An artist did the painting.
Those are great birdhouse,Grizzly!
I've been retired for five years now.
Not being on much of a schedule is what I like. Hibernating on weekends here in SoCal like my parent's did is working especially in the summer.
Camping in the off season is a joy with most facilities running maybe 1/4 capacity.

Well, I guess there has to be at least one in the group who tries to swim up-stream. I retired three years ago at sixty-eight, decided to become a full-time RVer, finally after much vascillation put this old place on the market, and just recently went back to work because I can't stand to sit around, mow or bush-hog in this aggravating heat. My wife wants to get on the road but continues to work in the meantime.

Do I like to work? Yep, always have. Do I enjoy the pressure and aggravation? I guess I do. I enjoy people but with her working I got bored dog-sitting. I wish one of you younger folks who wants to move to the country and hobby farm would give me a call. The price is right!

Well Killgore, you and I are in the same boat. Probably the reason I retired last year rather than a few years ago. I have an idea that after hunting season is over this year, I may look for some kind of part time job. Dont know what yet. Just so it doesnt have anything to do with computers.

Trac, I got conned! "We just want you to help us out part-time". This week it ran into overtime, and I see no let up. Ouch! I didn't read the small print. I have a feeling that when the tail starts to wag the dog, I'm gonna pull a Johnny Paycheck.

That sounds like your having a problem there in Bama!! I would help you out but im leaving in the AM for another trip into the mountains. Just an in/out deal drop off some things to start hunt camp and come back the next day, stay a day at home and do it again. I know, I know its tuff but somebody's got to do it ;)

OH!! THE RIGORS OF BEING RETIRED :-laf

BIG

BIG, as soon as the realtor gets off her fanny and sells this place, Jennifer and I are headed your way for a couple of cold brews and that dance Penny promised me.

I have been in the parts business for 40 years now and most of the time enjoy it. I'm not ready to retire just yet. Although my Dodge is paid for I still have teenage payments for a few more years. It does stop at some point.... right ??? I know I could keep busy with stuff around the house and working on my truck (it's never really finished ). I would like to do more travelling and see more of Canada. I'm not a fan of warm climates but would like to see some of the US as well. I enjoyed my trip to Columbus last year although I wasn't impressed with the US border guards and how I was "welcomed" as a tourist and possible terrorist. Oh well we have our share of jerks up here as well. It was my first time driving across the border. Mostly we stay in Alberta and British Columbia. There are always things to do and places to see even if you have seen them years before. A lot will be determined by health and spare cash. I'm trying ( finally ) to take it easier and slow down in general.
Thanks for sharing. David

Thanks Regcabguy. I have to say I enjoy woodworking more than anything. I build everything from birdhouse to large furnisher. I have also enjoyed building houses, which I have built a few of. I have a large well equipted woodworking shop in the shape of a two story barn.

Don't let it bother you, they treat the citizens of this country the same way. From last nights news, I'm with the understudying that there are a bunch of temporary inspection sites set up, up to 100 miles from the border now. That means somewhere about 70% of the total population of the country can run into these things. They showed where a guy in the US military was stopped by them, showed his proper ID and they still treated him like a possible terrorist. They showed where they broke a guys window and pulled him form the car, then later released him. And the news service is saying their finding out the general population is getting pi$$ed off. I was born here, raised here, served in the Army, worked paid taxes and retired here, and now wonder if Canada would be better.

Reading all this makes me feel very fortunate. I enjoy my work and don't look forward to retirement. To be honest, I'm 55 and my biggest worry is what I'll do when I can no longer perform the physical labor that is my livelihood. All you folks seem to have endured what is to me an excruciating way of life for many years in order to grow old enjoying what I see and do on a daily basis. I realize I have given up a financially secure old age, but I traded it for a lifetime of work I never dreaded. I think I got the better deal. Thanks guys, i feel better about myself now. I had begun to feel bad about my future. Now, not so much.

jhenderson I feel the same way I am 57 and am in the same boat . I enjoy my job (custom cabinetmaker) have my 1200 sq.ft. shop on my 2 ac. of land . No long commutes unless installing . I get to pick and choose my jobs and don't have anybody to answer to (except my wife) retirement plan sucks so will be working to one foot in the grave , fine with me i would get board. Love the bird houses Grizzly! I have firemen friends who have retired at 55 (you gotta be kidding me) what a boring life no thanks . OK back to work (on my lunch break)

This is no **** Penny and I Took 4 animals up to Canada one time (before 9/11) Going into Canada was not a problem, I gave them the Veterinarian paperwork that was required and they checked out a few things on US and let us go. One of the Mounties came out and we spent about an hour having lunch and resting the stock he was interested in the Mules talking about them.

On the way back was the problem again we checked out of Canada they looked things over said thanks for coming and hurry back. The US was a PITA we had all the paperwork that was required and they didn't believe it, our Niece is the gangs Dr. Sent them copy's of her records and they didn't believe her either. I dropped my wallet and when I picked it up to put the cards back in it they seen my Military ID Card. Sorry they said your free to go????

Never again will I go to Canada with animals, NOT BECAUSE OF CANADA, but the US Customs/ Border people!!! What a bunch of D Heads

Because I have been with the same company for the last 29 years I do get a few days off each year. ( this is my tenth year of having 6 weeks paid vacation ) Although I seldom take more than 2 weeks at a time I do enjoy the time off. Last week we were in the mountains near Banff Alberta ( too many tourist so we didn't go into the town ) and this week I am doing some things around the house and on my truck. I could get used to this :) This week the temp is in the low to mid eighties which, for me, is way too hot. I have to stay out of the sun. I go from white to red real quick. I know that is not even mildly warm for some of you.

To be honest I haven't really thought much about retirement. I do have a pension but as to what exactly we will do I am not sure. We could use our house as a base camp and travel from time to time. I'm not one to just pack up and move away from here, having been in Edmonton for over 44 years, it's kind of like home. I have been in about 16 different countries ( mostly as a teenager ), in 8 Canadian provinces & territories and 16 different States. Some places I would like to see again others not. We'll see. David

Dave, I worked at the same place for well over 30 years. I wondered the same thing before I retired. But 5 years before I did retire, I considered this:

was I happy only doing this
was there other things I really wanted to accomplish in my life
did we want to work until we were forced out of age or health or death as with other friends we knew
what would make the wife & I happy
was I happy living where we were or was there some other life we want
what changes would / could make us happier and content instead of what would we put up with as we did the last few decades to survive

We retired, sold the house and moved to an area we selected. (In another state) Built our home and settled in. We see deer in the morning or night grazing, rabbits running everywhere, foxes cruising the land, and way way more. We travel to see the kids and grandkids once or twice a year and minimum one other place neither she or I have never been before. (some years 4 trips) We have enough land that the wife has a garden bigger than she ever though she would have, I putt around the yard with a 40 HP Massey and a Sthil chainsaw (a lot of trees), enough room I don't see the neighbors.

We never had a 2nd thought of what we did and never want to move back. Just open your mind and think of what you REALLY want for YOU, and you'll be fine.

2nd on border crossings. I grew up going in between Maine and Canada on fishing trips with my uncle. Most of the time I never even knew we crossed the border. My wife just chaperoned a high school trip to Quebec. Going in not bad, coming home, horror show. Ever hear of Kinder Eggs? You can buy them on EBay. From what my wife told me, the border guards threatened to tear the bus apart, and jail 13 year old girls for bringing some home with them. Wish they were so tough down south!
