DPF regeneration?

Hi, I have not been on for a while. In Feb 2012 while wintering in Texas, a drunk driver hit us head on and totaled my 95 2500 TD. I replaced it with a 2010 3500 Laramie 4X4 crew cab long box with 3.73 differentials with approx 39,000 miles on the clock. I now have 52,000 on the clock. I have never seen the truck indicate it was doing a regeneration. Is this normal. Would it do this without me knowing? I usually have the EVIC displaying mileage stats and glance at this frequently when pulling my 35ft 5th wheel or driving solo. Should I be concerned? Is there anything I should be checking?

It does not smoke and the tailpipe look clear/clean.

Phew! I'm sorry to hear about your truck, but when I started reading your post, I have to say I was mighty relieved when I saw "95 2500 TD" at the end of the sentence, and not something much worse.

OK, afaik the '13s and '14s will go into regen without telling you, and usually without you noticing, and there's no way of getting the EVIC to display when it happens. An aftermarket monitor like the Edge CTS can tell you. I assume the '10 will be the same.

Yep, you'll never know..........I could occasionally tell my 2010 was in a regen if driving in town. The engine would feel like it had a slight rumble in the exhaust and had a bit more power on takeoff.

Ok Thanks guys. I did not know what I should expect and reading my #85 TDR today on DPF regen, it looked like truck would tell you when it was re genning, however, I did know that the articles I was reading, were on older than 2010 trucks.

On some trucks the cab will fill with a deafening, high-pitched, whistling roar. Sounds like a 747 is landing on you.

You'll only notice a regen while you are driving slow... Increased timing rattle, funky turbo sounds, exhaust smelling like burning propane, or curling the hair on your legs when you walk past the pipe while wearing shorts.

When you come to a stop at idle the EB will engage in regen. I believe my truck only has this phenomenon, but after an ECM update in 09, I know it's in regen because at low RPM when accelerating its sluggish, but when I get to 2K RPM it takes off like a bat out of hell. It also seems the throttle is sticking when I let up from the surge.
