The other day I was in a remote area and put the 'key' or whatever you call that eletronic device in the ignition and tried to start. NOTHING! Acted like a dead battery. No display at all on the dash. No ding. NADA. Turned the key to start 4 or 5 times and off it went finally. What could cause this and if it did not clear itself how could I get it going? Nearest service was about 100 miles away.

I've often wondered the same about my truck. It has the push button start. Havent had problems yet, but how do you "bump" the key to cycle the fuel pump? All this technology has its advantages, but just as many disadvantages.

Without touching the brake pedal, push the Start/Stop button twice.

The truck's system will go through a complete start sequence (preheat if necessary, lift pump activation, etc.) without engaging the starter, then it'll shut off.

Best regards,

Sometimes the KIN can lock up. If it ever does not respond I would disconnect the battery for a couple of minutes. On your truck where you insert the fob in the dash it has a hard wire and a bussed message to the RFH. They have to match or it will not respond.

I don't have the button start. Would just turning the key to tart twice be the same? That is what I must have done.
Al,

I'm not sure because my truck has keyless ignition, but I'm guessing on your truck you just turn your fob to the start position without touching the brake pedal.

On second thought... do you normally have to press the brake pedal to start the engine like I do with keyless ignition?

Yup, the days of rebooting our vehicles is coming fast. Can't wait for the first report of a "blue screen" on the U-Connect, or the dash info center.

I had the same issue one day on my 2013. I found that If I took the key fob out of the dash switch and hit the lock then un lock buttons on it that everything came back to life. Best way to describe it was that the computer did not see or notice the door unlock and open the first time. So in affect it did not wake up. I've had the same issue with the engine break and tow haul switch, the computer forgets to turn them on until you hit the door lock unlock button. The joys of living in a computer controlled world...

Sounds like disconnecting the battery IS a RE-BOOT!

What is the KIN and RFH?

What is the KIN and RFH?
KIN = Keyless Ignition Node (the Start/Stop button ignition system)

RFH = Radio Frequency Hub (an electronic module)

And for comparison...

WIN = Wireless Ignition Node (the fob style ignition key system)

With the key on hold the left window up button and the volume down button, then touch the heater delete button!

and then there cam Win98. Then Win98-SE (Some errors) Then Win98- ME (More errors) I guess it's possible than the Ram actually runs Vista!!!
