Exhaust temps

Roger on the expensive, but when I asked my tire dealer to check the price of the GY Marathon "E" (China Made) there was not any question about going with the RST "G" rated. Also one of the few American made.

For those of you that live in the Pacific N/W or West coast Les Schwab tires has over 400 stores and their guarantee can’t be beat!

Les sells a Chinese made 16” G rated tire called GEO STAR. Two summers ago after 2 of my G/Y 614s blew out I now have 4 GEO STARS on the ground with a Sailun for a spare. The thing that sold me on the GEO STARS was the Les Schwab service/guarantee.
Sorry, I am NOT on board with your assessment of Less Schwab tires. I had some of the top rated TOYO tires they told me that would last as long as Michelin tires.. Not even half the tread wear and they turned me down on any tread wear conpensation.. Last tire purchace they will see from me.

The tires that were on my new to me 98 12V were Toyo's from LS. Guess where they were made......CHINA!

chinese vs usa

Ya know,

I'm so tired of seeing folks buy cheap Chinese junk over more expensive American products. I've had a 3 boats over the past 20 years and generally trailer them. I've had 2 bearings and 3 tires fail on the road. The bearings and tires were Chinese and "standard" with the trailers. I've never had American made bearings or tires fail. Now when I order trailers I either specify American parts or I supply my own parts, or I replace the Chinese junk with American parts. All it takes is one failure on the road to nullify all of the "savings" associated with cheap Chinese junk.

Economics 101(1) - Opportunity cost - what is your time worth? To spend 2 - 6 hours or longer to fix the problem and get back on the road doesn't seem like a good trade unless you have nothing else to do.

Economics 101(2) Actual cost - buying 2 or more Chinese products instead of having to buy 1 American product doesn't seem like such a savings, especially when you consider the labor cost for the repair.

Unfortunately, the market (you) determines who survives. I can no longer buy American made bearings for my boat trailers. Timken has succumbed to market pressures and moved their manufacture offshore.

"Walmart shoppers, buy here and send your jobs to China."

To paraphrase H. L. Mencken, "No one ever went broke underestimating the intelligence of the American public." The Chinese have learned this well.

Sounds like a rant, but it's true...

First post in 12 years? Yes, I would say it is a rant as you drink coffee out of a cup made in China, as you watch TV and type on a computer or cell phone, also not made here:rolleyes:

NIsaacs,

You're right... and your post illustrates my point. In the past 10 years I am no longer able to buy many USA made items because we clever Americans will buy cheap ***** and replace it multiple times rather than pay more for a better product. We drive American companies out of business or force them offshore. Thanks.

Just another example; Goodyear brought part of their ST tire line back to the USA a few years ago. However, they weren't price competitive, so those are now back in China.

By the way, I haven't posted before because I felt I had nothing significant to contribute. I have used this site extensively to gain information about Dodge Diesels - it's a great site.

My post is probably also not significant, but I'm extremely frustrated trying to purchase a new trailer and refit an older one. This has also happened to me in trying to replace tools, computer products, etc. Those Chinese are clever. Sell a lousy product and be able to sell 2 or 3 more to replace the failed ones. In the meantime, steal the technology and hold America hostage to even get the replacement.

DO, no problem, go ahead and vent :D I know the choices are limited, I guess what I was saying is, buy what's available or do without. It's not always the product that's the issue, sometimes it is the store. I try to buy local in my small town but sometimes you can't, it's just stupid.

Case in point: I needed some nuts and bolts for my bolt bin, so I made a list and went to my local hardware store. A box of 50 grade 8, 1/2" nuts was $25.00, I was out and needed them so I bought them, but nothing else on my list. I went home, got on the internet and found the same thing for $4.84, so guess where I filled my list out with? 1 box of 1/2" nuts and flat washers paid for the shipping for my whole order.

I know this is not about tires, I am walking around the barn again:-laf
