Truck started out this morning not wanting to shift out of second.Drove to town at 40 Mph thinking it would warm up and be ok,no go never would shift out of second.Got to town and no reverse. When it is first shifted to reverse it seems like it went in but then acts like it's in neutral. It is going into 1st in drive and will downshift to 1st manualy and in drive and did finally shift to 3rd and overdrive on way home once day warmed up and transmission temp. at pan got to 190.Did transmission upgrades 4,000 miles ago everything had been working well.Changed band anchor & strut, accumulator piston, front servo cover, superior shift correction kit, governor pressure solenoid, and output speed sensor.NEED HELP! THANKS

When you manually shift to first, speed up, then let off do you get engine braking or does it freewheel? 1st gear is a sprag clutch whether or not the band applies, the band applied is just much stronger but it will get first even if the band does not apply. The free wheel when you lift off the throttle is usually a good indication but the OD directs can have the same effect.

Two things can cause the loss of reverse, rear servo\band problems, OD direct clutch pack gone bad.

I do have engine braking in first gear-I removed the pan, everything looked ok-the rear band adjustment seemed very loose. In tightening the band adjustment I found what I believe is a crack on the outside of what I think is the rear servo .The plunger that the arm sets on at the other end from the adjustment bolt. The crack is in the casing surrounding that plunger, visable below the snapring.I'm thinking that may be allowing pressure to bleed off so no reverse.I'm going to try and attach a pic.

If it extends below the sealing rings that means the case is junk. Put a gauge on the rear servo port to check pressures in reverse and manual 1st, that should tell you if you have a leakage problem.

Since you have engine braking in 1st gear it sounds like the band is applying and holding. Need a pressure check next.

I will work on doing that test, might have to take it to a shop I don,t have a gauge.Let you know results. Thanks

Do I need a special gauge to do this test,I did a search online and can purchase a 0-300 psi gauge liquid or air for $15.Am I going to need some special adapter to go to the test port. Thanks!

Ok, D is gone hunting. He told me to ask but I lost the notes. I think he said he's thinking to get and ATS transmission and wanted to know if anyone has experience. Please give me something to tell him when he checks in. 5.9 2003-2007

we are a few hours away, but is quite doable to let them handle support and adjustments I sure appreciate all your help I'll keep everyone posted on how things go with ATS and the new transmission. Thanks again.
