I know that the there are several different treads but I am not sure I fully understood them. So I thought I would ask a new question here so that some of you could help me understand my issue.

On my 2003 the temperature control works great the recirculate works great, but the floor vents no longer work. Anytime it is selected it comes out of the chest vents. The defrost still seems to work. What I cant figure out is which door I have to replace. I think it is the one that the only way to get to it is A) take the whole hvac system out or B) do the heater treatment option of cutting into the HVAC.

Is this correct or am I wrong on which door is bad.

When mine gave trouble, I had the local dealer do the repair with all HT doors the proper way. Works great. Couldn't complain about the $445 labor charge.

RSC,

Mine quit working back in 08. I was contemplating doing the (cutting of metal method) after reading about issues with noise and potential electrical related problems previously mentioned way back by H.T. Also, I have a friend with a Jeep Commander that needed the HVAC fixed by the dealer in which they removed the entire dash assembly and they have had small noises (squeaks) ever since.

My question to you is (or anyone else having it done) did the dealership remove your entire dash accessing the blend doors and servos to fix it all for the cost you stated and, did YOU provide the H.T metal blend doors or did the dealership ?

I had broken mode doors in my 06. I replaced all of the doors with Heat Treater Doors. I didn't want to cut up my HVAC box, so I pulled the dash and the box. I also replaced the heater and evaporator cores and the accumulator. This is an expensive job to pay someone else to do. The dealership quoted over $2k for the entire job. If you replace all worn seals and weather stripping in the box where the ductwork meets the dash vents, you shouldn't have any squeaks or rattles. If memory serves, I believe that I had just shy of $500 in parts plus the A/C discharge and recharge.

I provided the HT doors, the dealer had never heard of them. They had no problem installing these parts, the only caveat is that if they failed, the repair would not be covered under their repair warranty. They removed the right side of the dash and laid it on the passenger seat. The job was perfect, no squeaks or rattles, and they reused the original HC and evaporator, as the AC system had been leak-free for 10 years. BTW, the dealer has an A+ rating from the BBB. How many dealers can make that claim? Had I done the repair myself, I would have purged the 134 and switched it over to R12. I can't see how this job, even with a new HC and evaporator could cost $2K.

RCR,
I didn't realize that it was possible to just remove half of the dash from what I've read and seen on other posts. Could you share the name of the dealership please.
Thanks again for clarification.

When I say "removed half the dash", I should have been more clear. It was not removed from the vehicle, the left side was loosened and still connected, and the steering column was lowered. That left plenty of room to remove the HVAC unit for repair. The dealer is Shively Motors in Chambersburg, PA. Been in business since 1939, so they must be doing something right.

For all of the work that I wanted done, $2K+ is what the dealership quoted me. My wife drives a caravan. The same dealership quoted $1,650 to replace just the evaporator core.
