off road diesel vs highway diesel?

anybody with a good maintenance

I have a 1973 vintage Case backhoe. Ether injection was some sort of option but is not on mine. Usually just misting a little ether at the air intake will get it going. There is some kind of heater in the manifold but it requires holding a button down for a minute or more and I am not convinced it helps much

I hope Nissan puts bigger axle housings in those trucks, their current rears are tiny little things. Granted this probably isn't a big power diesel, but still...

I'd be really surprised to see Nissan takes off with this new truck. For my entire life, I've never known Nissan pickups to be that popular with consumers. I rarely see them on the roads.

I agree. Fred Diaz is going to have to put some more lipstick on that truck besides the Cummins under the hood.

Just remember fellas........Dodge trucks were all but dead when the Cummins got put under the hood. Ford and GM were the only players in the heavy truck market for a loooooooong time prior to that.

Fitz, I think they're really pulling a fast one. Totally unlike anything we've seen so far in marketing. Possibly a whole new package. I caught THIS on twitter today.

You mean the motor that RAM shoulda' had???

I disagree.

IMHO a 5.0L V-8 is a LOT more motor than any 1/2 ton needs. I think the size of the VM 3.0 V-6 is perfect for a 1/2 ton application, but I'd rather it have a big C on it.

Styling looks like an improvement but is similiar to Ford's Transformer image.
Competition is good. Hopefully,Nissan pulls it off.

A 5.0 is really not that big........remember the Chevy 6.2/6.5 Diesel, 454 gas and the current offerings of 400 hp gas....Ford 460 gas and the 400 hp 6.2 gas of today....Ram, Toyota and Nissan all at 400 hp for the v/8 gas engines. The 1/2 pickups of today are big and heavy. My brothers 4 door Ford Raptor weighs 6800 lbs. The 3.0 just sounds anemic:-laf

Yeah they were bigger in the 80's and 90's, and were offered in a 1/2 ton but even at the low power ratings they were harsh on a 1/2 ton drive train.

With modern diesel technology a 5.0 is overkill for a 1/2 ton, it's a LD pickup and doesn't need to tow 12K lbs.

A 400hp 6.2 gas engine will not have the torque of a 5.0 turbo'd diesel, at least not at the rpms that breaks things.

Just my .02... .keep 1/2 tons a 1/2 ton.

I know the lack of quality that exists in mahindra products so I wasn't too butt-hurt when they died on the vine......I really want to see the frontier come to fruition.
