Time for a replacement of hood struts on my 2005 2500. There has got to be something more economical that the OEM replacements parts. Can anyone suggest a reputable 3rd party. I would like to stay away from the Chinese made junk on Ebay if possible. thanks

Even though they have a different part #, many people have used the 4th gen hood struts are a direct replacement for the 3rd gen struts and are apparently as strong or even stronger and for whatever reason CHEAPER (almost 1/2 the price)(probably made in Chine like may oem parts…lol)

4th gen hood strut is part #55372200AA

3rd gen hood strut is part #55276321AC

Amazon also carries hood supports made by StrongArm Lift Supports, they are a quality unit, though you will have to find the application part #.

Yes, I had found these comments in a past post, but didn't know if there had been any new sources since then. I'll try to find the StrongArm parts number and will check out the later model Mopar price. thanks

I bought mine off eBay.
Those things are devious, the first time I found there was a problem was when the hood suddenly collapsed and tried to take my head off.

Earlier this summer I replaced mine with O'Reilly's. I don't know how long they will last, but they want to throw the hood over the roof of the truck for now.

Just bought a pair for one of my 03's from AM-Autoparts, $37.35 for the pair including shipping. Was surprised to see they were made in the U.S.A.! ( for the price). Installed them, they seem to work fine for now. Anything is better then using a broom stick to hold up your hood while checking the oil !!!! Good luck.

Thanks for all the comments to my question. I picked up the 4th gen hood strut part #55372200AA that seafish mentioned. They were $20 each at local Dodge dealer. Could have got them a couple of bucks cheaper on line.

They are made in USA and seem to be a great replacement. Fit just fine on my '05.
