Ozy, is there a market in Europe for fuel treatment additives other than anti-gel products? (Ozy's answer to that would be a clear indication of whether or not the average end consumer feels comfortable with what he's running through his pump and injectors.) Is it quality control standards or loose (not as stringent) specs? I suspect both, as Chris stated - the influence of the Almighty Dollar.

Here is my take or two cents....
I went from being a Chevy to being a Ford owner in the early 90s when Chevy went to IFS. And a horrible Pontiac helped that too.
I went from Ford to Dodge/Ram when the 6.0 Powerstroke issues came around.
So I've had a 2005 Ram 3500 Cummins and currently a 2011 Ram 3500 Cummins.
I've been pretty happy with the Ram trucks. That said I've had some issues, think front end and O2 Sensor stuff.
My next truck is likely going to be a 2016 Ram w/Cummins but I will certainly test drive the other brands.

IF, the big IF or when :) FIAT/Chrysler/Ram/Dodge dump the Cummins I'll certainly be concerned and will look even more at the other brands. If FIAT wants to win with their motor just slightly beat or match the specs of the compitition and offer a 200K warranty on all things powertrain, emmissions, electrical, etc....

I personally think that if Cummins left Ram it would certainly change things but 80% of the population just want their truck to do its job and not break down, badges on the truck don't matter.

Hi Ed, didn't forget you.

Well, it's a little difficult to give an adequate answer to your question.
The common consumer didn't think about this topic, drives his car and when it fails he let it repair, didn't ask a question ever why it fails.

But in the INTERNET 4x4 Community is rumor about fuel quality and lack of lubricity, especially in Germany with their B7 only Diesel.
You can buy Diesel (and Gasoil) Treatments in nearly every Supermarket - for an impressive Price, liquid Gold. Bottles look always old and dusty.... no one buys them.
So if someone cars about this Problems? he is going to use simple 2-stroke oil from the cheapest quality in a 1:200 Mix.

Years ago I was laughing about those People, called them nuts because why should a diesel need something? .... well, today I use the 2-stroke oil too - its good for peace of mind.
We had to relearn much about Diesel Engines, the old ones never died whatever of fuel was put into the tank, todays Diesel are picky as hell for fuel quality and filtration.

I think the Problem is everywhere, USA, CA, EU....

Oh, and we don't need anti-gel, thats always inside the Pumpdiesel in wintertime - according to climate of every European Country - in Switzerland all year round to -25° Celsius.
In Norway also -25°C, Lapland -45°C - you see, usually never a problem with geling.
We don't have something like your #1 and #2 Diesel.

Was at local dealer who i am friends with, said 2018 is complete redesign of truck, not likely it will not have a cummins

Not this crap again......Sorry but I'm raising the BS flag.

My point is that Fiat could screw up the deal for an inferior replacement. I'm negotiating with my company to purchase a new truck and they like Fords, but they admit that they wouldn't buy a 6.0 and newer. So I'm trying to convince the owner that the CTD is what makes the Dodge option so much better. I can just imagine the conversation, if I had to say "but it's a Fiat diesel". :-laf:-laf:-laf
Just an update, my company bought the truck and was delivered yesterday with the service bed installed, I should have it by the end of the month. The logo and graphics are being done and the owner likes to set the trucks before we get them, so we can change them back to the way we like them. :-laf:-laf:-laf

Look at my signature!

You could have given them the standard compromise: http://fordcummins.com/, and then you both would have gotten what you want. I've often wondered how many Cummins engines the Ford people keep around, and test out in the trucks they are designing. It makes sense they would be researching it, and even Ford people have dreams...

I can tell you one thing. Since Fiat took over they do not leak ANY future product information. The Germans on the other hands were masters of killing sales on the existing product because they let everyone know years ahead what new and exciting change was coming. The dealers do get a little peek under the tent at the dealer announcement show, but they confiscate every phone or device before they enter the meeting. They are mostly shown exterior photos, and usually not details of what is under the skin.

Not only do leaks kill sales, they do worse damage by tipping off the competition. Millions spent on product research, engineering, and design could be given away with just one leak. Absolutely no new product leaks is the best plan by far.

Sometimes they can help sales. For instance leaking the new Jeep wrangler would have IFS would cause people that wanted a real jeep to buy earlier rather than being stuck with IFS.

If they drop Cummins that will be there downfall. Dodge would not exist if it was not for Cummins. That a fact for sure. There something for sure having a Ram with a Cummins makes a fellow fell proud. If they drop Cummins then I will drop Ram for sure.

All of this is not an issue for me. I will be buried in my 97 2500. 252,000. miles and climbing. New paint coming this summer. Have new sound system with blue tooth and siriusxm. new steering box and front end parts(2wd). small pwr upgrades. Pulls my 27ft fiver great.

That combination is the best, if you concider the non complexity of the engine and less, if not not at all, smog crap. But as a good friend of mine did, he jumped into a 2014 CTD Mega Cab and never looked back, but he still has his 2001 CTD. The engine has 180K only, but the truck was starting to need things like paint/upholstery & frontend work, so he just kept it to use for his business, as a beater.

No, you'll just stop buying new Rams. <G> See above! Tell me honestly, if you were to grab a fishing pole and head to Cuba... Would you fish or look at cars? You don't have to buy a new truck to have a Cummins/Ram, so start a new rumor and enjoy your truck.

JMHO, but if Sergio were to offer a FPT engine in the C&C series, it wouldn't be that big of a deal to a commercial user. Look at all the users who bought 6-litres, 6.4's, and still went back for more so they could beta test the 6.7 Scorpion. However, I think it's still a major sales attraction in the PU line.

They could just buy Cummins like Ford did a few years ago!! Ha! Ha! Ford should have, then they would have had a second good diesel.
