Today I drained my fuel filter, wiped out the canister, which contained a lot of dirt and debris, and replaced with a new one. I have a FASS fuel pump, so priming isn't a problem. I bumped the key 6-8 times to prime the pump, expecting fuel to come spraying out of the top, that wasn't on tight. But nothing happened. I could hear the pump running, but no fuel filled the canister. Actually a little, but only about an inch in the bottom. I primed several more times, then pulled the lid off of the canister, and still nothing. So I filled the canister with fuel that I had, primed a couple more times, and started the truck. I couldn't believe that it started. I thought for sure that I would have air in the lines. Drove it down the street, fueled it up, switched it off, and it started right up again. Fuel pressure reads 13-18 like normal. It just seems strange to me that the canister wasn't filling up. Normally when it starts to spray out a little, I hand tighten the top of canister, to bleed out the air. Anyone ever have this happen?

I will leave the secondary filter on my Air Dog loose by a couple of turns, bump the starter and QUICKLY position myself under the truck (but off to the side of the pump) and the second fuel starts to push out quickly tighten the filter. I can usually prime the pump the first go around like this, sometimes it takes a second bump of the starter. Then I go up front to my factory fuel canister where I have a small needle valve on the top of the housing with a section of 1/4 stainless tubing bent in a "U" shape and a section of clear plastic tubing pushed over the stainless which hangs down slightly below the filter housing and crack the needle valve open just a touch while the lift pump is running. This pushes the air out the top (along with a little fuel). When I don't see anymore air bubbles in the clear plastic tubing I close the needle valve and start the truck.

The pump ran each time I bumped it, but the canister never filled up of sprayed out like normal. I filled it up myself then started the truck. I was just surprised it didnt have any air in the lines. Got lucky I guess. I love the idea of the stainless tubing with the needle valve also. I must do this!

Right after I bought my truck I ran it outa fuel wouldn't prime no matter what I did I pulled the plug out of top of filter housing mines a 98 and cycled the pump and used a funnel to dump power service in the filter housing while pump was running and it primed right up .

Similar here, couldn't get the FASS to prime. Ended up pushing the truck down the drive way and turning it into the front yard so it would sit level or slightly down hill. Primed up OK. Once I bled the air, started fine and spit fuel out like crazy if I cracked anything. Grass still hasn't grown back.
