What "sounded funny" ?

I am 57, my Dad is the first AMZ/OIL dealer in WA State. Notice how I spell it?????

That you may sell it before the warranty is up. I don't see my buying another truck ever but how knows. I hadn't planned on getting this 2014. Till I totaled my 98.5 in Houston TX last winter. You oil sample thru AMZ/OIL and how often I was planning on doing it. Also having only had an older 24v how often should the truck regenerate, I've never had one that did that.

I like Blackstone for my samples. Many here do also. I like to do one every 3-4 oil changes to keep an eye on things. I ask for TBN on the sample. Tells how much life is left in the oil. I don't worry about re gens.

I have heard of them. I had my 98.5 24v so long Inew what I had to do to take care of it. I will learn about the new one I do know that this 2014 is way above the 1998 in every way. I hope to get to go to may madness some time. I used to go to some of the rallies in IN long ago thanks for all the help. I value TDR and the people in it. I know some one will know something that I may not.

I did a search and couldn't find any similar results so here we go.

I bought a new 2015 Ram back before Thanksgiving. First oil change is coming up here soon and need some info before that time comes.

I previously had a 2003 Dodge Ram and used Mopar or Fleetguard filters along with Shell Rotella T 14w-40 oil.

Given the new truck has emissions equipment I wanted to make sure there weren't any specific oils to use. I checked the owners manual and it looks like Mopar recommends a 5w-40 synthetic in cold weather temps and 15w-40 regular oil in more normal temps.

So my first question is, what oil does this truck have from the factory?

I live in Maryland so we see a wide variety of temps from a low of zero in the winter to upwards of 100 in the hottest summer days.

I intend to stay with the same oil filters and also Rotella T oil.

I just need to figure out if I should stick with the 15w-40 dino oil or a synthetic. I know Rotella has a 5w-40 synthetic, don't remember if they have a 15w-40 synthetic or not.

thanks
Todd

Those of you that use the Amsoil; do you use the 5W-40 or the 15W-40? I know that Amsoil is one of the few (maybe ONLY) brands that offers a full synthetic in the 15W-40. I've always thought that "IF" I ever decide to make the switch to synthetics, that I would probably go with the Amsoil 15W-40. I would assume that you would still get a cold weather pour point much lower than a 15W-40 Dino oil but not have to pour such "thin" oil into your hard-working diesel engine!

I run 15-40 year round, no matter were im at, or the weather... works great.

To keep it very basic, when you have a 5w-40 oil, and the engine is cold, the oil flows like a 5w oil to give the best lubrication of the metals. When the engine block heats up, the flow is like a 40w. But it is rated as a 40w oil the entire time. Might I suggest reading Bob The Oil Guy website. They went into this very deeply.

I have always used the 15-40. It is recommended for the 5.9 and 6.7 unless in EXTREMELY cold weather. I have a barrel of the non LE oil I use on my last and recent 98 12V.

I used the 15-40 in my 11HO and the test results always came back good.

In a couple thousand the 5-40 will be dumped and the AMZ/OIL 15-40 will go in the new 15.

In my last truck 04.5 I ran valvoline premium blue 15-40 for 250k miles year round, with one gallon of 10-30 for the winter. My truck sits out side a -20 and never had an problem. I ran Delo in my 93 year round to 310k miles. I switch to valvoline when delo went to LE and it fell dramatically in the ratings. Because of the ridiculous cost of these new trucks in my 2015 I am going to use valvoline premium blue extreme in the winter. Have any of these engineers had anything to say about switching back and forth for the seasons?
