Will be buying the little lady a 1500 in June. Were older people but she wants one We go south for the winter and she pulls a 14 ft utility trailer with our STUFF. Never weighs over 4500 lbs. Question becomes..........do I get the hemi or the Eco. If so give me details. Rear end ratios, etc.

Thanks

Eco Fuel Econ is better and pulling power with a eco diesel is awesome . I don't have a 1500 but I have a Jeep eco diesel and love it .Pulling a 16 ft trailer with a dodge dakota on trailer we got 18 mpg running 65-70 .The guy's with the Pick/up's will chime in soon I'm sure .

As I see it you have to decide if the extra cost is worth it along with being able to find some one qualified to work on it.

I have about 80K on my 2010 1/2 ton Crew Cab 1500 4x4 (4.7l V8 3.92 gears). It has been an excellent truck all around. Regular oil changes and one complete set of spark plugs (16) are the only engine related things I've done so far. One set of front brakes and both front hub bearings round out the total of required service. I dont think that is too bad for a truck that gets used as a truck. Approximatey 18-19 mpg unloaded highway, 14 mpg or so average, and 9 or so pulling a ~3500# enclosed V-nose box trailer. I understand that the 5.7L is slightly better all around on fuel, but I can't comment specifically.

I only have 391 On My 2015 Ecodiesel , This I will share ,I had both 3:55 and 3:21s I took home for a few days as demo's, I ordered 3:92 and glad I did, Most of my driving for the Eco will be city and when I'm on the HWY the 3:92 65-70MPH feels way stronger then the 3:21/3:55 , Yep it might cost you some MPG (3:92) 1 or maybe 2 MPG , the power is worth the mileage lost. 3:92 will gain some MPG for stop & go City driving.

If I lived in ND/SD/MT/WY I would get 3:21 BC you are always driving 75-85MPH.

Great information. I was wondering if the 3:55 were good enough, but with what were doing with the truck you have convinced me the 3:92 are what I need.

Thanks all

I think the ZF-8, 3.0 and 3.92 are the sweet combo for the ED. If driving fast 75+ is your game go 3.21... 3:55 are around good, just great at Nothing.

I drove a 3.55 for a few thousand miles and it had plenty of power pulling 5k travel trailer up and down to Lake Tahoe. Highway mileage was excellent 25-26, towing was right at 14-15mpg. I would lean toward the 3.55 unless you are towing all the time or live in the mountains.
The other consideration is the cost difference between the Hemi and ED. Last year when I was in the market the cost difference was $7800 because the price difference was $2800 with no incentives, and the Hemi had $5000 in incentives. Resale will be higher on the ED, but you can buy a lot of gas for $7800. It is probably better now as I believe you can get a couple thousand incentive on an ED.

Sag2, take 3.92 Home You won't be looking back at 3:55. I want to be quick, Not fast....When I had the 3:21-3:55 I was pushing My Pedal 15-18% (with 2-6psi more) same RPM further constantly to reach 55MPH... It took My 3:92 9.4 seconds to reach 55MPH ,3:55s 11.1Sec and 3:21s 11.9Sec. Not to scientific...But a good touch tone.

You are correct but no need to sacrifice the economy if you don't need the power.

The questions I have, is who makes the ecodiesel, and how many years have they been installing them in Jeeps ?

VMI motor's or Fiat and they have been running this same Motor for year's .From what I have heard Cadillac started it a while ago and then sold it to vmi / Fiat. I may be wrong but this is what I understood anyway. as for how long in a Jeep 2014 is the first year but after owning 1 for 12,000 miles so far we LOVE it . has a ton of Pep and will get up and move very nicely .

Thanks for the reply, thinking about buying a new one. I'm driving a gas Hemi now, which tows a decent amount, but the tow mpg. is less than 10.
