You guys know much more than me about these things, but wouldn't heat make the bolt sit tighter? The bolt will heat faster than the much more massive chassis rail, won't it, and so expand relative to its socket and be jammed more tightly?

Sometimes you can heat a broken bolt and hit it with water and it will shrink the bolt enought to make it break loose, also with some of the Locktites, Red i think, it has to be heated to 500 Deg.F to break loose. bg

Torque for bed bolts? Getting close

Can someone share the recommended OEM torque spec for the M12 1.75 bed bolts please?

Made a stepped bed-mounting plate yesterday.

A friend's 2005 manual shows the same M12 1.75 bolts I have, and 80 pounds for torque.

That's the closest I have to a spec for my 2014 2500 thus far.

I had a bad experience with 3 bolts that snapped off on the trans-axle case on a VW TDI clutch install couple of years ago. Driver side mount. Enough of the broken bolt was exposed that we welded a new nut on it. The heat from the welding was enough to melt that extra dose of thread locking goo. Lesson learned.

Thank you for the proper spec Badunit. That confirms what I decided to use, 80#. My friend with the 2005 dug a little deep this morning and shared the part number for the bed bolts for his truck. Turns out the part number has not changed and is the same as the new, OEM replacement bolts I decided to buy today from my local dealer.
