Did a brake fluid change and excercised the calipers. Have a question

I did a brake fluid change today and with the wheels off, I also excercised the calipers on each wheel to check for and to keep from having any stuck pistons. I used about 1.5 quarts of Castrol Dot 4 fluid. I sucked out as much of the old fluid from the master cylinder reservoir before I poured in the New Castrol fluid. At 74,000 miles, I still have the original front and rear pads. The fronts have about 3/8ths left on each pad.
Is there any thing I need to do with the ABS pump? I assumed the clean fluid went right through the ABS pump. Do I need to "balance" the brake system front to rear or vice versa? I drove the truck and the brakes felt good. The ABS works good too.

What are the best replacement pads these days?

no special procedure required..........I prefer the oem pads.they aren't bad on dusting and work very well for most users.The life you have received from your oem's is proof positive

As ALWAYS, Thanks Bob. I also have a Pacbrake and use it. Driving for UPS also helped as I don't race to RED lights.
Can the pads get hard or rotor glazing affect the braking? My stopping just doesn't feel like it did when the truck was newer.

Yes the surface of the rotor and the pads changes with wear. Resurfacing the rotors (with in specs) and new pads will bring back the good pedal feel you had before. We use an on car lathe that is very accurate

I don't have access to the lathe like you do but I was thinking along the same lines about aging of the pads and glazing on the rotors. My rotors, I am sure, can be cut and be well within limits.
