Does anyone have any idea how accurate the fuel used numbers are in the fuel filter life evic display on a 2015 3500?

The display shows that 221 gallons of fuel have been used since it was reset (at new) and since I've driven 4512 miles, it suggests that my total combined fuel mileage has been 20.41 MPG U.S. It sounds to good to be true almost!

That's a good question, I'm at 11,000 miles and mine says 15% left on filters. I believe the ECM, uses an algorithm based on the input of a lot of different parameters, but not pressure drop accross the filters. 15k seems to be norm for required maint. Like my 07 C&C 6.7. The pressure drop across the filters are the most accurate, how does the ECM know the difference between fuel quality?

I am not so much concerned with the filter life piece of this just the accuracy of the fuel amount it states has been used. If it is accurate, my mileage is substantially higher than I thought it would be.

My 2015 3500 srw aisin 4wheel drive with 2000 miles on it is lucky to get 13 mpg .mixed use towing mountain passes and unloaded daily driving.i am hoping it gets better not super happy with the mileage.

Have you calculated tanks empty and tanks towing? One overall number doesn't give much to compare to!

The inaccuracy of the gallons "logged" is just as inaccurate as the EVIC's MPG claims.

Chrysler has always claimed it is with-in 10%,I don't know if you will ever see it print.

I have hand calculated, unloaded, at a steady 70 MPH, just over 21 MPG (U.S.) which I was pretty happy about. I don't actually tow much except my boat on short trips.

I have calculated by the tank with good results (better than 21 mpg in one case, empty at an average of about 70 MPH) But if this truck is performing as well as it appears (assuming the EVIC number for fuel consumed is correct, I am more than pleasently surprised. It already seems to be getting significantly better mileage than my 2011 whcih was essentially identical.

The inaccuracy of the gallons "logged" is just as inaccurate as the EVIC's MPG claims.

So if I "discount" the fuel used and assume it is actually 10% higher than indicated, it still works out to 18.57 mpg (U.S.) for a total distance (mileage on the truck) of 4512 miles.

Respectable or not? I think so!

Agreed.......................

Respectable. I just see too many people putting way too much faith that the numbers these trucks spit out via the EVIC to be "the gospel". :-laf

I've logged 102,853 miles, $24,703.20, 7,653.8 gallons via 268 fillups thru Fuelly on my 2014.......and I can assure anyone that the EVIC is not that accurate. ;)

If my arithmetic is correct, that comes out to 13.44 MPG. What kind of driving were you doing for most of that 102K miles?

Hotshotting. After delivering some new trailers, and returning empty, I've hit anywhere from mid 17's to 19.8 mpg (hand calculated) a few times.

Click on the "notes" for additional details. Towards the end, I got a little lazy :-laf but there's still some good info there.
