Empty trailer hammer

When I was a kid my parents had slide-in bunks in the back of a pick-up. All it consisted of was two benches with cushions and a table in the middle. The table would drop and slide into the center to make a queen size bed if you wanted, or keep it with two singles. Had a small staging area at the back, vinyl floor. The benches could be opened for storage. The thing was great for traveling with kids. Now that mine are old enough to travel I want one. Now I wish my folks never sold theirs.

I am looking to buy one but can't find anything for the life of me. If need be I can make one, but would rather buy.

What in the world are they called?

Was it built like a camper shell or camper top as we call them up here?

There was a company in Maine that made those for years, can't remember the brand right now.

here in Cali they were called bed kits. They were modular, coverd in carpeting usually and could be slid out easily, they went away about the same time as the surfer van conversions

That's the type I remember. A guy who worked for us had a '60 F-250 that had one.

It was separate from the Topper/Camper Shell. Just slid into the bed. The bench seats ran over the wheel wells, there was a camper table in the center mounted the same way as a in a rv. I looked at the first link, and that definitely is not it. I will look at the rest now.

Thanks for the thoughts, with all these heads at work something has to surface.

Looks like I am dead in the water unless someone remembers the name of that company in ME and it is still in business?

That must be it. As my folks were up here in N.E. when they bought it. I have called 1/2 dozen cap and rv dealers and no one has any idea.

Might have to start building one, but I figured I would pick the brains of everyone here one more time.

I have been pestering everyone here that I can think of. A gentleman in Milford, Me. manufactured and sold what I believe you are seeking. It was years ago and I can't remember the brand name that he used for them. He is retired but does come in on occasion.

We are discussing it today hoping someone will remember the brand. Then at least you would have a little more info while searching. There were a bunch of them around in the late '70s, early '80s....

Well here a few pick of what I am building. Getting cushions made now, so when it stops raining here in NH I will test fit.

I had one of those from the late 70's to mid-80's. Sold it and haven't seen one since. I think you're going the best route by building it. Pretty simple to do is seems.

Not too bad. Have not fit it to the truck yet. Maybe I will start building them and selling?

Guy who is making cushions does not trust my measurements. I need to bring it to him on wed so he can measure.
