RVTRKN, did you have any vibrations in addition to the noise? I've read where many folks are suspecting the rear ends as the source of the 4th Gen vibes.

Only when no pressure was on the drive line between 35-40 MPH, otherwise the only other symptom was a light humming noise. But the vibration was more noise, unlike a U-joint causing obvious heavy vibration.

The New Owner's Of Norco Dodge are IDIOT's
I completely agree, the new Browning Dodge in Norco is a joke. But there are a few mechanics from the old Frahm Dodge that I respect, that still work there. I kinda feel for the top tech there, he always has a heavy work load, then the surrounding dealers that can't solve the issues with their tech, send them to him. The guy has a minimum of 3 vehicles around his bay at any given time, and most of those are diesels.

Why in the heck did they send an axle housing? This is crazy.......I had an AAM replaced in my 06 after a tech over tightened wheel bearings following a wheel seal repair. The wheel bearings took out everything and a complete axle was shipped. Seems crazy to me that they would ship an empty housing and now you get to roll the dice as to wether or not the tech has skills to properly set it up

I'll know in the first 1000 miles, for the truck sits at 10K Pounds currently equipped. I believe the bearing housing and caps in the picture are what egg shaped from not being torqued write.

That's almost a complete rebuild. Guess that out of round axle shaft is still good to use in your brand new housing :)

Like I posted, I got conflicting reports between the Service Writer and mechanic. If you follow the summary the mech reports that the right side bearing cap loosend causing the carnage.

I wonder why AAM did not just send out a complete assembled rear end? Labor cost vs ? I'm sure they have a stack on hand for factory shipments etc.

The Service Writer showed me the cost on parts only @ $6000.00. I would have preferred a complete assembly, but it's fixed, so that's all that matters to me.

That's just plain stooooopit.....I priced an 11.8 300mm rear axle and it only lists for $4500 +/- or so.....

Looks like the parts manager is running the show there. A complete assembly PN 5146378AE is only $2660 and is available. They ordered the housing ($1880) and all the rest of the pieces to drive up the parts price because they make 40% markup on the parts.
They also know if he set it up wrong and it fails again they will blame the parts and get paid to do it again.
