As the title suggests, I'm wondering if anyone here really knows how torque management works and when?
Admittedly, I am new to the Diesel world and TM (TM is not exclusive to Diesel's however) but I am not new to trucks and mechanical things in general. By using my logic and some assumptions, and further concluded by some quick Goggle searches (not Ram specific BTW), it would appear, and logically so, that TM would only be utilized during shifts, accelerating from stops and possibly heavy acceleration at speed. These situations logically would be hard on a trans and the rest of the drivetrain.
I seem to hear a lot of talk on forums (this and others) about TM limiting torque at any given time/gear/speed/scenario and this just doesn't seem logical to me. Some imply, or actually state, the engine will never put out its full torque because of TM. Seems ridiculous and illogical for a manufacturer to increase torque every couple of years then prevent the engine from being able to utilize it, ever. I also see many posts implying that TM is somehow transmission controlled, when to me (again, my assumption) it would be the engine PCM limiting power when accelerating and when the trans is shifting.
So, who knows?
