In the last few days I lost 3 qts. of oil out of this pain in the butt gasket
Actually it is not as bad as it looks once you start. The noise panel fell apart in pieces when I unbolted it so I just left it off. I think it is responsible for retaining the heat on the cover and baking the gasket. It was heat checked the full length and finally cracked all the way through. The story is if you don't glue the gasket on the cover really good it will squirt out when you bolt in on. I used some good gasket adhesive on the gasket groove and on both sides of the cover, let it dry 10 minutes, installed the gasket and let it dry another 30 minutes then installed the cover finger tight, plus 1/2 turn and left it overnight. I will finish it up today. I am kinda slow so it is going to be about a 6hr job. Note the cracks in the picture.
