285/75/R18 run well, look good, dont rub?

Happy Turkey Day!

Anybody running 285/75/R18 on Laramie 18 inch rims? Thinking of adding 2 inch level at front and running this tire size in a Toyo Open Country AT2. Looking for feedback (and photos of that size tire (any brand) on your truck if you've got some.). Had this set up (2" level, 5100's) with 285/75R17 on my '12 and liked it but looks like 18" tires maybe an inch more in diameter and want to make sure they dont rub or impact wheel well or suspension at full turn. Also does speedo computer get close to this size on a '16? I was about 2 mph off at 70 on my '12. Any comments based on experience with this combination are appreciated. Also any gripes about that size tire with 3.42 gear...I had 4.10 in my '12 so it was a zero issue. ...I have noticed I end up manually selecting trans gear around town to prevent engine lugging...or what I consider lugging, my 68re views it differently I dont want to dilute/have to increase my throttle position too much to accomodate the larger tire (I know there is plenty of power to turn the tire...just dont want to dilute it too much so I am in it alot to get it rolling smartly.) Thank you.

Not exactly the same, but I have 285/60/20's on my truck. That is what it came with. The width should be the same as the 285/75. I have no rubbing or lugging.

I went from 245/70/17's on mine (looked pitifully small in those roomy wheel wells) to 275/70/ 18's.

There is still plenty of room around them, so I suspect the 285's will be fine.

The 18 inch wheels look much better!

Thank you both for the replies and comments on your experiences, just the kind of intel I am looking for. The tires I am looking at (285/75/R18) are 1.67 inches taller than the 275/70/R18 and 1.37 inches taller than the 285/60/R20 (but they are the same width as the 285/60's.) I hope to find someone running 285/75/R18's with a 2 inch front level if they are out there to see if the extra tire height causes any issues. I hate to be a $1500 guinea pig.

There was detailed information in my column in the TDR magazine recently... it pays to subscribe and support the TDR folks that make all this happen.

Short answer is: I run the Toyo A/T II 285/75R18 on my currently not lifted, 2014 Ram 2500. Not even a leveling kit. Stock wheels, no rubbing anywhere, and I use it off highway more and harder than most. Originally with the stock bumper and now with a Buckstop winch bumper.

I lose track of when work is submitted and when it is published...often months later. I just realized that the TDR magazine with this tire size info was just printed in Issue 90, which should arrive in your mailbox soon.

A leveling kit does not add any true tire clearance if the axle still has full bump stop travel. With stock wheels any rubbing issues will be on the sway bar and radius arm which no amount of lift will change. You can run 37's on stock wheels and still only have rub on the radius arm and sway bar.

Does the 285/75/18 fit in the spare tire bay under the bed?

I don't remember where I got this photo or who's truck it is but I saved it because I have thought about moving to LT285/75R18.

I doubt one of these tires will fit in the spare tire bay under the bed. It is barely big enough for the stock tires. They look pretty good, though.

I got a 285/75/R17 in the stock spare tire underbed position on my '12 but it was very tight. I fear the 285/75R18 wont fit... I agree that photo looks good. Thank you for the intel on the leveling kit...I do like the way they look (the bigger the tire the more obvious the front rake/rear elevation on the stock truck. I personally dont like the lower front look.)

Sure you just had to post that Pic of the truck with the wheels I've got on my rig. I'm trying so hard to be good an not go overboard with this truck........ But those wheels fill out the wheel well SO NICELY!.... I guess the wife's Christmas gifts could be a little less this year..... Lol

I recently purchased 18x9 aftermarket wheels. Tire rack says the biggest tire that will fit is 295/65r18...it seems like most tires are 295/70r18. What sizes are you guys running without having a leveling kit?

You might not want to put too much weight on those wheels.

Why is that? They are rated at 3640lbs per wheel...or were you saying that because of the tire size?

My '14 2500 has stock suspension (for now) and I have no rubbing with 285/75R18 Toyo AT II treads with factory 18x8" aluminum wheels.
