I'm seriously considering upgrading from my 13 to a pretty much identical 16. Recently had a family member move here which will save several thousand miles per year from having to drive back & forth to regularly, so I'm wanting to get a new rig while the mirage is still under 60k, I have positive equity, and I can get a super great deal on a new one. I've recently started having a few small electrical gremlins, as well as numerous sensor issues, and plenty of software upgrades. I'd really like to have something that's not a model year change (emissions stuff etc). I'll be building the truck for me at the dealer. Tips? Suggestions? Ideas? Pros? Cons?
Thanks!

There is quite a bit of difference between my 2016 and the 2014 I had. I don't know if my 2014 was just a truck that did everything so-so or if the 2016 is just better. The engine is quieter, not so many clicks, rattles, whines, etc......The programming for the Aisin seems different, my 2016 shifts more consistent than my 2014, which had the latest updates done. There are a few new things for 2016. The 8.4 nav unit has a few more options and features. The picture on the nav screen is way better, the picture on my 2014 was like a old school TV, the 2016 is like a high def flatscreen. The electric fold back tow mirrors are slick, the ridiculous horn delay my 2014 had is gone also. Another nice touch is the windshield wipers have a one swipe mist feature now.

I went from a 2011 with almost 100K to my 2016 and am very pleased that I did. Almost 5300 miles on my 2016 I picked up 08/28. The power is so much better. 14GVW is better. The mileage is better. 15K oil changes is totally worth the DEF compared to my old 2011 that wanted oil changes about every 4K. And it is good to have a warranty again. :) Go for it!!!!

But a '13 is much closer to a '16 than an 11 is to a 13 (a '13 will have DEF, the stronger frame, more TQ etc, much like the '16). Basically, your experience with an '11 isn't a useful comparison for his specific question.

If you garage it the electric folding mirrors are great. The 2016 allows you to swap around bed view and park view cameras. My 2015 Alpine Stereo System is pretty nice! Things you can do with the EVIC improve each year. I can see what gear the Aisin is in by manually selecting 6th as highest gear. Between the D and 6 is the gear that it is actually in. I would go with the 3500 and maybe rear air. Tire pressure is an indicator on the 3500, not an alarm, so you can air down the rears for better ride empty.

Didn't the 13 2500s have the same frame as the 11s? I had forgotten about that. The 2500s got the upgraded frame in 14. The 3500s were in 13.

My 2500 has no audible alarm.....except a chime on startup. There is the typical yellow indicator on the dash and the evic will default the tire pressure screen, but no alarm per se. Do the 3500's not do either of these things?

I thought it was a mid year change on the 2500's, but honestly don't know for sure.

I was wrong once before however. :)

My 2015 3500 has the first display of many things(eight or so, left or right) one screen down from the digital speedo that displays tire pressure at the four corners. No lights, alarms or changing displays!

And yes the 13 2500 was the old frame!

Question though, is the 13 2500 a DEF motor? DEF=Good!

Thank you expert. Hence why I stated ''my 2011''. Don't have to be a jerk about it.

So 900# is better than 800# something. The rear axle is beefed up. I love my 2016.

My advice is do it! Order it very carefully.

If you are not going to add electrical accessories skip the 5 pre installed in cab switches. Because if you get them the controls for heated/cooling seats and steering wheel are in the Nav/Radio and no real buttons for them.

Also I'd skip the rear sliding window for a defrostable rear window.

Order the factory spray in and 5th wheel prep.

Skip the factory running boards, aftermarket ones are half the price.

I understand the other choices you mentioned and agree, but why this one?

I haul a Lance slide in camper and utilize a Lance foam window boot to seal between the truck and camper. I open the rear window and the camper crawl through window for cool/warm air circulation from my truck's HVAC to inside the camper when traveling. In my present quad-cab, I can reach the back window (a bit of a stretch); however, with a real crew cab the window will be further away. My truck will be either garaged or will have the camper on it which covers the rear window when traveling.

Just for clarity, this is how mine looks. The yellow indicator within the speedometer, is always on. The "Tire Low" message in the center of the EVIC will always come on at startup. Shortly after startup, as it realizes the pressure is low, the two red lights (at the rear wheels in the diagram) come on with a chime, then that is it. I can then change the EVIC to whatever screen I want....but it will default to the Tire warning at each startup.

3500's function differently than this?

But I can't help it sometimes. Your post came across as to why your '16 is better than your '11, when your '11 is quite a bit different from the '13 the op was asking about. Basically, most of the advantages you listed about your 16, his 13 already has.

Yes, the 3500's don't warn you of anything, they just display the pressures, no warnings. You could shred the tire off and it will just show 0 PSI if you happen to look at it, no alarm.

Federal mandates based on the GVWR of the truck. 10,000 lbs and below require TPMS----10,001 and above simply require TPIS.
