Odometer is blank

The odometer on my 04. 5 intermittently goes off/blank. It can be working fine then turn off while driving then be back on again. The other weird thing is that the oil pressure gauge goes from 0 pressure at idle to pegged driving down the road. Then it will work fine for hours. There's no correlation between when one works or the other fails that I can see.



I've cleaned the battery connections and the connectors on the instrument panel. I've replaced the oil pressure sender unit too.



Any ideas?

This may not be related but I know a certain programmer that when a particular option is selected, the odometer goes out.

I do have a Smarty installed now too. It's been on for a couple of years, What program are you thinking of?

I'm sorry it's not the odometer, it's the shift light indicator that Smarty turns off when the Shift Limiter is enabled.

# 1 - Off ( also shift light indicator will be turned off )

I would try reloading the stock software and see if that cures it. Just to make sure it's not programmer related. So much of this stuff is ECM controlled. Also, you will notice that without the key in the ignition, the odometer lights up when you open the door so there is a circuit to make that happen.

If there is an issue with the circuit that looks at the door switch then you could see those symptoms, but I don't know where or how to look from there.

My 04. 5 is doing the same thing. Mine works fine sometimes and then fades and goes completely blank. Not just odometer though, also tow/haul, 4wd, etc lights don't work. Did you ever figure out a cause? I have juice/attitude on mine but no other programmer.

I seem to remember there was something with the Smarty programmer that in a particular mode the odometer goes out.

I have read that disconnecting both batteries can fix it

Ok i have tried that before but it didnt come back on. Do I need to do that after reseting with my smarty jr?

Not sure. Is your dimmer turned off?

Yeah that's the first thing I was thinking double checked it it's on but I don't even get it when I open the doors

Most likely source of the issue is cluster is bad.
