Emissions equipment question - pickup versus chassis cab.

Are we going the right way?

I want to run dedicated power for my dash cam and trailer TPMS. I'd planned on tapping the power from the fuse panel, but then discovered that it's been moved to the engine compartment next to the battery.

How are you guys hooking up your extra gear? Does anyone make a pig tail that can be plugged in between some component's plug? I'd rather not splice into the wiring and void the warranty (brand new truck).

Yeah, I could just run the wiring from the dash cam down to the cigarette lighter, but that looks so cheesy.

Is your truck G56 or 68RFE???

I used to do the same thing by just tapping into the fuse panel inside the truck, but haven't been able to do that for awhile, so rather than waste a lot of time tracking down a lead inside the cab, I just run fused power from the battery. I'm not aware of any plug & play additional power but you can get an accessory fuse block and run only one lead from your battery and have a few additional leads. Genosgarage.com sales them here http://www.genosgarage.com/category/Electrical-accessories.

I never did buy the painless wiring block that TM mentioned and to be honest, I forgot about it. That's probably a good way to approach when it comes to adding 12v accessories.

I thought that is what the upfitter switches were for. Is there not a place under the hood that you plug into so you can use the switches?

X2 on the painless wiring block. There are three different version and I installed the weather proof 3 Circuit one. This has been on my truck since I installed my air-bags on my truck in the spring of 2011,with no issues at all. I would buy this again.

It has the 68RFE.
You can easily remove the clutch block-off plate, drill a small hole, install a grommet, and run wires through there to the fuse block, using fuse taps. You'll then need to determine which fuse to tap based on whether you want it switched or not switched.

I have the Tradesman model, so the roof console only does lights. I wonder if there are other power feeds up in there that aren't being used since I don't have the fancy accessories.

I would STRONGLY recommend the Painless products that provide a dedicated and isolated power source. These new multi-plexed vehicles don't tolerate tapping into harness or repurposing wiring for an unintended purpose

I put in the Painless Cirkit Boss 3 line auxiliary fuse box today. My truck-loving neighbor was laughing at me - he knew I'd be modding that brand new truck within the month, and he was right. Dash cam switches on with the ignition, just like I wanted it to.
