Unless the threads in the coupler were not cut correctly, that is a lot of threads to get pulled out. SNOKING

The 2 lock nuts need to be extremely tight(spec is 109 lb) or they will back off.The threads are not being pulled apart

Then you did not read the whole thread on the cummins site. The steering wheel is not going to get way off with just loose lock nuts. SNOKING

I checked mine back in October when that thread started and the nuts were tight. Today I checked again and one was backed off. My steering was not off because the other was not yet backed off (but it was not fully tight either).

No I did not read the whole thread but I have seen a few trucks with the nuts loose and steering wheel off center-and have fixed them

Yes, the steering wheel can/will get off center if the nuts back off. It will not "all of a sudden" get off center (unless the reports of it jumping threads are accurate) but it will get off center.

I read the entire thread. The posts about the threads being worn out I find doubtful. Possible but doubtful. The threads are a loose fit, much too loose of a fit in my opinion.

Funny how someone can post about an issue and people all say it can not happen until they see it themselves.

Here is the latest post on the thread on the other forum.

"I checked mine when this thread first started and they were tight. I looked today and one was backed off and the other was not tight. That was only about 3000 miles in between.

There is a surprising amount of slop between the sleeve and the drag link, especially considering how small the threads are."

I do not think we have heard the end of this one yet. SNOKING

Not likely jumping threads. These are not split turnbuckles. It's solid tube with jam nuts.

At least a split turnbuckle would tighten down on the rod end threads. There are reports of rod end threads and sleeve threads being a sloppy fit. SNOKING

I checked mine, the jam nuts have paint lines on them that line up with paint lines on the turnbuckle. They were tight of course.

Sometimes the TDR is like reading a medical book. Pretty soon you get scared and start worrying about all the things that could go wrong with you...

Yep, that's the problem with the Cummins forum. If it did not happen here, it did not really happen? Snoking

Yup. Let's put it this way. If someone is so out of tune with his truck and or does not care that the steering wheel is off center for quite some time maybe the treads would wear and if let go long enough could become an issue. Those threads will not pull out on their own or while being torqued. The sleeve will feel somewhat loose if the lock nuts are not tight.

That last post at the other site was mine. I posted both places.

When I saw this thread here a few days ago I thought I would go check my drag link again, couldn't hurt. As I was crawling under I was laughing about how these forums keep me busy checking this and checking that and never finding anything wrong. And then I find out that mine had worked loose over the past 3 months.

I think the sleeve feels too loose when the nuts are not snugged up. I expected a much more snug fit.

I smell a recall coming some day on this. Maybe you (Badunit) should report your finding on www.safercar.gov? Seems that nothing happens unit enough reports are logged there.

SNOKING
