Hi everyone again: It's the preaching Sinner back, I want to first of all thank everyone that helped me with my IP ended up replacing it on my 93 4x4. Now I have a new problem my oldest son just bought a 93 4x4 with auto trans that won't up shift, just stays in low it also has problem with alternator not charging, as this was the ECM on my rig I just went old school with regulator, was wondering if it could be the ECM or something else with the shifting problem. Thanks again Pastor Sinner.

Never gets out of low at all

That's not what I asked you.

Do you feel the detents when the trans is shifted threw all gears manually?

The reason I asked that question is!!!!

If you can not feel the transmission detents when you manual shift the trans. It is possible the rooster comb has came loose inside the trans. This could also cause the trans manual control valve to be in the wrong position.

It acts like a vacuum control module is disconnected like back in the days when I used to work on 70's cars. But I'm thinking all that is controlled by electrical now.

The only electric on you truck trans is for OD. Every other shift is done automatic by the valve body.

Do you feel the shifter click into each position when moving from low to park manually or does it feel loose and you can not tell what position the shifter is in.

Philip: I want to thank you for your help; It does feel good going into each gear, I didn't know you are supposed to check fluid levels while in neutral, and it was about a half qt low, so I topped it off and took it for a spin, it seems like it goes into 2nd ok not 3rd, but after I turn around from my test drive it stays in 1st again and does not up shift. I think we are just going to send it to a transmission shop in town. I want to thank you again for helping.

One thing to check before shipping it to a shop. On the side of the trans where the shifter linkage connects there are two levers. The lower lever is for the shifter linkage. The upper lever is for the kick down/ throttle valve cable.

Check the upper lever and see if it moves freely. If the cable it is hooked to is bad and has the lever at full throttle position. That can cause a no upshift or very late/ high RPM upshifts.
