I have been following the developments of the new trucks from behind the wheel of my 2003 2500 and interested to know what to expect for the 2017 models

Expect little to no change. 2018 is a target date for major change to the heavy duty Ram models. This has been discussed many times.

Probably a sheet metal change since the current style has been in use for several years and a major interior change as well. Oh, and a jump in price also. These trucks are gonna hot $100K before too long.

MY 2017 for the 1500s and 2018 for the 2500,3500 etc was the original update schedule. But didn't that get pushed back another year a little while back?

So what are the major differences now between the 2500 and 3500 besides the aisin upgrade, slightly more tq, 1 ton capacity. I am thinking that with the newer auto and more power perhaps all I need is the 2500. The dealer told me the 2016 2500 are getting up to 20mpg but the 3500 is in the 15 mpg range. That didn't make too much sense to me.

You talked to a dealer that has a lot of 2500's on his lot.

Rear coils or air on 2500 vs rear leaf springs or a HD rear air, and 1000+ more capacity. Snoking

Might be that he is generalizing duallies as having a 4.10 rear diff. Where the single rear wheel has the 3.42 rear diff. Maybe that is where he's getting his mpg numbers from (unloaded)? But not any huge difference between SRW trucks in mpg because of the same differential. (Both 2500 & 3500)
