No matter which brand DEF you buy, if it's been overheated, the life has been burned out, and will no longer be viable... As in... Walmart in Texas...? There is an optical tool you can use to test what's in the box, but is iit's around $100. I would ask my dealer to test the DEF with this tool before trying to sell me a new SCR system.

Weak def will not damage the system to require replacement.Somebody is blowing smoke

This is true. Only over-concentrated DEF can damage the system. If the DEF is in a firmly sealed container, the water won't evaporate from the DEF. I've noticed that most DEF containers have seals like your typical ketchup/mustard/condiment bottles. The seals are basically glued on with a permanent adhesive. I think i will be inspecting these sealed bottles more thoroughly from now on.

I will follow TCdiesel's advise and occassionally dilute my def with a few ounces of reagent grade dionized water. This extreme Florida heat could evaporate water out of the def in my truck's tank. Especially when parking on 130 degree pavement

getting ready to buy DEF for the first time in a few weeks... Whats the consensus... Buy in the box at a reputable store, dealer only, buy at the pump??? Does it matter???

I've been considering picking this one up. The reviews seem excellent.

Consensus from previous threads/posts say:

When buying from the pump, use only a high volume retailer. I bought from Loves pump once. But if buying from a pump, you may need the magnet to overcome the safety shut off. There is a magnet in most medium and heavy duty truck def fillers.

However, when I bought def at Loves (at the big rig islands behind the store), I was the only one buying def. All of the rigs were older (predef)

When buying in a bottle/ carton, there are mixed results from walmart. Definitely check to ensure the manufacturer seal isn't broken and use a medium to high volume retailer. I have had no problems with PEAK from Advance Auto.

Be leary of sales. Probably means the DEF has been sitting on the shelf too long.

If you buy mopar brand, and have trouble...... you may be covered better under warranty as long as you are careful not to contaminate it yourself

I bought one of those tools just haven't used it yet. I will when I put Def in next time.
I bought THIS REFRACTOMETER from Amazon while at May Madness and used it to test a sample from a new jug of cheap "SuperTech" DEF purchased from the local Walmart. The refractometer I received had a NAPA label on it and it calibrated and worked perfectly. Very nice quality.

The SuperTech DEF was DEAD ON at 32.5% urea so into Slobber's DEF tank it went. I just drove from Pahrump to Hawthorne, NV today and the truck seems very happy. :)
