2016 trucks, trailer wiring help

ok I have a 2016 2500, with factory tow package
*I have NO power to my outlets on either port for running lights(when head lights are on)
*I have brake lights, turn signals, but NO headlight/running light power
*and YES trailer is NOT the issue
* with a meter I have NO power at the port on either plug,

*I cannot find any fuse that is JUST for the running lights at trailer connection
*is there one and I am NOT seeing it
*or what could be wrong??
*trying Not to have to take truck back to dealer if its something simple, only 6 months old so??

Check fuse #29 in PDC under the hood. Should be 20 amp Busman FMM fuse. This fuse was difficult to locate back when I was researching this in late 2013. See the thread titled "Fuses for our new trucks" in this forum.

and will grab a couple to have as spares

Have you checked the connector directly behind the bumper? Sort of on the back of the 7 pin connector. Some of them have not been properly seated and have had similar issues.

NO I didn't
by the time I got to things today, it was late and getting dark
I spent the day rewiring a trailer, as I thought it was the trailer LOL
should have used the meter first, but this trailer is known to be picky, aluminum and winter use, seems to kill grounds every other yr,and, I did find a bunch of cracks in some wires, so, hoped it was trailers wiring!
expected a new truck to be fine LOL
OH well will see tomorrow
and will update for sure

OK a follow up
went to 3 dodge dealers and None had any fuses. I TRIED to get them all to just yank one out of a truck on the lot, and pay them for a new one and then have them just replace when new one gets there(told 2 days to get one in)
and they all refused
as I didn't buy truck off them>?? SO
am waiting for a new one to show up at closest dealer to see
NOW< while AT the 3 dealers, two looked at my old fuse and said they THINK It looks tripped ( The f29, 20 am mini fuse that is) other dealer's tech told me it looks fine and odds are its my TCM, or circuit board below the fuses< as he said he had a few trucks of my era with bad connections?
SO< till I get a new fuse, in 2 days things are on hold???

hoping its just the fuse, but if not its 6 months old, and should all be under warranty!???

I second this thought. It is very difficult to plug this connection in.

With you meter on Ohms you should be able to test the fuse. Reading should be the same as just touching the red and black meter leads together. SNOKING

Thanks, I haven't tested the fuse with a meter, had hoped a new one would be more easy to grab at the dealer
as for looking at connections on back of things, NO< and I didn't due to well, lazy, and again hoped to just get a new fuse and see from there
as I wonder what the odds would be of both connections being bad on the 7 pin and the 4 pin set up, and ONLY being on the running light connection of them both?
But I will wait and see what happens after I get the new fuse, as if its NOT that, this truck is under warranty, and rather them screw with it, than me and them say I did something to it??
dealers near me ain't so happy about things when you don';t buy off them, but they also won't give a decent price on a new truck or would buy off them<
but saving 5+ grand, I buying else where?? is a no brainer to me?

The 4 pin and the 7 pin wiring is split out inside the wiring harness just before the 7 pin plug on the back of the truck. So if one's out most likely both will be. You can check that the circuit has power in the truck's PDC pretty easy with any VOM or 12 volt test light. Remove F-29, with the parking lights on, measure voltage to ground on both pins in the fuse cavity. One should have approximately battery voltage and one should read about 0 volts. Note that the parking lights time out after some time as a battery saving thing, so be sure they are on when your doing this check. If you have 12 volts there, you can also check for voltage at the main chassis wiring connector located up under the body just behind the left front tire. Should be pin 2, a white wire with brown tracer (this is from the 2013 wiring diagram). See the diagram in the trailer tow section for additional help. If you don't have voltage on either pin in fuse cavity 29 in the PDC, I'd take it to the dealer.

As far as the fuse, I bet Amazon could have one to you tomorrow! It's a 20 amp Bussmann FMM fuse.

As a test you could pull fuse F28 and swap it to F-29. F-28 is the same 20 amp Bussmann FMM fuse. As I stated in my main post in the trailer towing forum, this fuse only supplies the back up lights to your trailer 7 pin plug. That would be the one I'd use in a pinch.

just to add an update
I swapped out fuses and I now have power to my running lights =on my trailer and at both connections on the 4-7 connection port
SO, I am HOPING IT was just a bad fuse either shorted out from maybe the old wiring on my trailer?? or just bad from factory, anything I guess could be ??
But I have extra's on the way, so will keep an eye on things and hope for the best!


so problem for now seems resolved

Well it sounds like your trailer had a short in the wiring that blew the fuse. Hopefully your earlier work corrected that. SNOKING

I had the same issue on my 15. It was the fuse too. Hasn't happened a second time. Still pulling the same trailers.

thanks guys, maybe a bad batch of fused were installed and weaker than should be or??
like I said maybe my old trailers wires were bad, , either way, new wires now on trailer won't hurt anything
and a a new fuse will apparently solve it for now, time will tell
I have extra's on the way too, just in case LOL
