How do I know if a trailer has electronic controlled brakes, or hydraulic surge brakes?

If there are wires going into the backing plates they're electronically ( electric) brakes. Almost all new trailers are electric. Some boat trailers are surge.

Not to sound flip, but, your trailer manufacturer should be able to tell you or at least the axle manufacturer. Of course you'll need make, model numbers and that kind of thing.

Not everybody tows and not everybody likes an integrated brake controller-free choice is good

Except when your school district buys a 2015 2600 with gooseneck prep that doesn't have an integrated trailer brake controller. * Hmmmmm.

They told us it was because they had to buy a minimalist truck. *Not something fancy. *The truck is a gasser & tradesman with vinyl seats. *So yeah, the kept the cost down. *But it is illegal to tow the trailer it was bought to tow. * Now they are balking at having an aftermarket installed*

Yeah, that's what happens when people that don't know what they're doing order vehicles. School districts up here do the same thing.

If they are that strapped for cash tell them to have a bake sale for goodness sake.
Does it at least have the rest of the tow package?

Be certain that the trailer has regular electric brakes or they could possibly be electric over hydraulic. This will matter if your purchasing an aftermarket brake controller as not all brands are equal in function. I believe the factory controller will do both.
If the trailer was bought by the school then it is likely to have electric brakes as these are the cheapest to purchase. They work fine but keep them adjusted properly.

I think there is a problem with your asterisk key.

Go into your settings and choose advanced editor as your editor type. That should fix the problem until we have it fully resolved. I contacted the skin developer about this and he's looking into it.

I've got a used Teconsha out of my Grand Cherokee. Top of the line brake controller. Used it 4 times. Tell them $50. Plus shipping.
