2012 Dodge 2500 with 6.7. Have dpf delete kit and H S Programer. Truck was running fine then turned off. Once it was started heavy black smoke rolled out of exhaust and truck wouldn't go over 1500 rpms. Restarted truck again and it ran normal. Truck went to dealer and they said it was a broken line connected to turbo. Line got fixed and now they say its a bad turbo. covered under warranty.. called back and said its not covered under warranty per service mgr 10hrs later. My point to this is, Dealer stated EGR wasnt connected to that was the problem!! Thus, not covered! I even purchased the extended warranty!! truck has 48,000 miles.

Seems to me that since the emissions are deleted its an emission warranty that isnt covered, not a turbo!

Need some good information so i can argue with dealer!!.. also noticed on the forms there is quite a bit of turbo failures on the 6.7 . and a drill, tap and clean as a fix per Chrysler is there answer... wonder if anybody has the update number for this fix??

Suggestions on new turbo set up for towing??
 
Dealers are pretty sticky on that point. Any and all performance modifications voids warranties. You might get lucky and fine one that will honor it, IMO that is a load of doo doo that they say no EGR killed a turbo. If anything it helps it last longer, less soot getting in there.

As for a replacement turbo, you will probably be best to go OEM, at least cheaper, and you keep the VGT exhaust brake ability.
 
Where are you?
It is problematic when you delete the emissions stuff and yet have a factory warranty and extended warranty.
You may or may not need a turbo; dealers misdiagnose sometimes.
BD Power has an excellent turbo shop, as another source for a turbo.

Emission Related Parts
These are examples of other parts of your vehicle which have a primary purpose other than emissions control but which nevertheless have significant effects on your vehicle’s emissions. If any of these parts fail to function or function improperly, your vehicle’s emissions may exceed federal standards. Therefore, when any of the parts of the following systems are defective in materials or workmanship and have failed in a way that would be likely to cause your vehicle’s emissions to exceed federal standards, they should be repaired or replaced under the emissions warranty:

1. Fuel Injection System: fuel distributor
2. Air Induction System: turbocharger, intake manifold
3. Exhaust System: exhaust manifold
4. Ignition System: distributor, spark plugs, ignition wires and coil
5. Miscellaneous Parts: hoses, gaskets, brackets, clamps, and other accessories used in the
above systems.
 
The OP has modified the emission system on his truck - he's deleted EGR and installed a tuner. Therefore, the emissions warranty is probably null and void at this point, and even if one did argue that it was still in effect, the turbocharger failure has to be related to material or workmanship. In this case, Chrysler has a good claim that the failure was due to unauthorized customer modifications to the emissions system. When you bomb a truck, you had better be prepared to be your own warranty station.

It could just be the actuator, not the entire turbo.

Where this repair is going to be on you that would be worth pursuing.

Might want to check into having it (turbo) rebuilt.

I'd also get a second opinion to verify that it is the turbo.
 
I need to find an actuator for an '08. My friend was quoted $4900 for a new turbo, plus $600 for installation. which Cummins part # do I order for a replacement actuator???

Not sure can even get an actuator separately. The turbo is not a Cummins part and don't think they sell parts separately, only complete assemblies.

Lol, 2 1/2 years too late on that advice. Are you bored tonight? :)
 
Why don't you put the DPF back on and take to another dealer ? they could have red tagged your truck too...
