On my other posts I've mentioned I picked up an 02 3500 4x4 6sp with 46k mi.
I've finally got to Missouri and will be headed to Cal Tue morning pulling an 18' trailer with a tractor weighing around 6-7k lb total.
I went through the truck and overall it's pretty good. Some frame rust and minor body dings and rust.
Starts and runs great, shifts are very smooth. Everything is stock except 5th wheel/GN hitch.
Oil/filter, FF and air filter just changed. Pretty sure trans and diffs are original fluids.
I was worried about the LP and IP so brought the FASS DRP but with the summer rain not looking good for getting it installed.
Also bought a pressure gauge and at idle it's a stready 7psi and 4 psi at 2500 rpm. This is parked with no load.
So, it looks like the LP is still working but not the 13-14 psi I heard is ideal for the VP44. Is this about right for a stock lift pump?
More importantly Im hoping it will be ok for a 1700 mi trip.
Based on previous posts of difficulty removing the rear duals I though I would spend the time and effort in ideal conditions. So glad I did. A good amount of rust and even after loosening the lug nuts and driving 200 yards, I had to beat on the wheels pretty good with a sledge hammer to break them lose. Would have been impossible on the side of the road at midnight.
Sure is nice to hear that sweet sound of a 2cnd Gen Cummins again.
It sure does ride like a truck compared to my 16 though.
