Back to a 2500, Some Questions

Has anyone heard about the new exhaust system bound for the next generation trucks?NO coolant lines running to and from the DEF injector.less bulk, lighter, more efficient, less maintenance.... sounds like it could be a good thing.2017MY trucks built after January could have this feature but nothing about it from anyone but Cummins?
 
Admittedly, I skimmed the articles, but I didn't get the impression this was intended for "Light" duty trucks.....like ours.

Really? So medium duty engines, on-hiway usage, and muti-platform support (all of which are clearly defined in both articles) somehow doesn't apply to a Ram? It is a stretch to make it NOT apply. If that is the solution Cummins is offering then that is what it will be eventually, it is the solution to meet future regs.
 
Seems like a huge improvement over the current emission equipment.
Now I just need to win the lotto in order to afford a new truck.

As I said, "I don't get the impression", "really", I don't. I am not saying it will not. The phrase "I don't get the impression" means there is a lack of certainty. So yeah....relax.

This statement: "specifically addresses the needs of medium- and heavy-duty engine customers" gives me the impression it's not intended for our trucks.....at least not the iteration in the articles.
 
I believe this is to be on all cummins engines to meet tier 5 GHG requirement.I'm curious to know when Ram Truck will Let us know how this will change the architecture of the chassis.I'm interested in a 2018 2wd SRW 3500.This will be the last of the fully matured 4th gen trucks. I need to replace my aging 1994- 4WD camper/utility rig.
 
I'm positive this will not be implemented in the 2017 Ram. Nothing on the web suggests so, and the article is not geared toward 1500's, 2500's or 3500's to boot. If anything, maybe this is a hint of what's to come in 2018 when the major update is expected. Until then.......we will not know

I remember when the 2007.5+ adaptations occured. Lots of bugs and hiccups along the way. That was an eye opener for me, and I learned then that I will NEVER purchase a first production vehicle.
 
CES (Cummins Emissions Solutions) would also have to be the supplier of the aftertreatment system used by Ram for this article to be of any relevance. Currently is Tenneco...

They may be the supplier but are building to Cummins specs.
 
They may be meeting the specs but the current design is different than what the medium duty trucks currently use. It drives me nuts where RAM does not offer the serviceable cartridge design like the truck's have.

You know better than I but I imagine that decision likely comes down to cost? Just thinking out loud a serviceable unit would likely cost more than a "throw away", and somewhere along the line a Fiat bean counter made the decision to cut a few bucks to remain competitive amongst the big 3.
