Does anyone use Shaeffer 5w-40 Diesel Oil? Your thoughts?

I have not run Shaffer's, but they have a great reputation. Sort of like Lubriplate, great stuff that doesn't get much publicity.

I hear they are a good premium oil, but not better than amsoil. I like the amsoil synthetic 15W40 also. It withstands fuel dilution the best.

I'd gladly run Shaeffers if there was a local distributor. They have an excellent reputation.I prefer to deal with small companies whenever possible. They're the backbone of our economy and usually give you the kind of personal service that's not available with the big outfits.

Actually, I meant to say that full synthetic 15w40 resists fuel dilution better than full synthetic 5w40. This is because the base oil is thicker, and it takes more fuel to reduce it to 0w30 or thinner.

However, I see that Schaeffers has a full synthetic 15w40 on Amazon. I previously thought that only Amsoil offered this. It is CJ4 certified as well.

I have run Schaeffers oils for years. There is nothing better.

Comparing it to Amsoil wil start arguments, But Schaeffers will only cost about half as much.

I run the 15/40 diesel marine non LE in everything I own, Tahoe, pressure washer, DR mower, 98 12V and Honda 2000. One exception is the 15 RAM.

I might try the 15W40 Schaeffer's synthetic or the 15w40 Redline synthetic. I didn't realize Amazon.com sells both.

Well, the larger companies do package their oils under different off brand (walmart, carquest, etc) names. But the small companies that make synthetics do use different raw materials, different proprietary manufacturing processes, and develop their own additive packages. So you will pay more for synthetics from small companies. And you are paying for their small scale research/development, testing and quality control.

I BELIEVE (religiously) in Amsoil. But I'm bicurious about some of these other companies that also have quality products. In fact, if you give me two synthetic oils in unlabeled packages, I bet I can pick correctly the Amsoil with 90% certainty just by rubbing it between my fingers.
