30k service

</script>bindex="1">last time I was at my dealer they said I would need MAJOR service at 30k miles...I have 30677 and am scheduled for this MAJOR service this week... anyone else had this done and what does it involve? I am told differential service, and fuel filters, I believe also transmission fluid check? Price Quoted is around $700... I looked in my owner manual and it recommended oil change and tire rotate and a couple inspections ( visually looking I assume) any thoughts would be appreciated! 2012 3500 4X4... thank you!

Do what the MANUFACTURER recommends, not the service advisor. I believe fuel filters are every 15K miles, so you should be due again at 30K. I don't think transfer case fluids, axle fluids or transmission fluid are mentioned unless you are in the severe service category... and even then, front axle and transfer case wouldn't be effected unless you were towing in 4wd.

Off the top of my head, 30K miles should be oil and filter, fuel filter, check the air filter, and driveshaft zerk. Certainly NOT $700 worth of service...

I wouldn't take the operators manual as gospel. My '91 and '01 both state: you don't need to change the manual transmission oil, even for severe service B-schedule......and for light duty A-schedule, axles don't need it either. I change all my gearbox's every 36k, keep them clean and full.

I have to admit that the Owners Guide does have a discrepancy in that it does state no manual transmission oil change schedule. I also don't trust what any dealer tells me about what I need for my truck as they will try to sell you everything under the sun whether you need it or not.

Thanks to all for the info, I had the differentials fluid checked, (it was fine) had the fuel filter replaced, drive line greased, and had the oil changed... all for $138...appreciate all the info from everyone!bgddydg

I want to say my '03 required diff fluid change every 30,000 miles, but I can't find anywhere in the 900+ page owners manual or the diesel supplement that my '16 requires regular diff fluid change. It states what fluid is required, but only calls out inspection of the axle surfaces. Any of the service tech's on here show a recommended change interval for the '16 model?

I have seen in the past recommendations of adding fluid from the top on a G56 and putting in an extra quart. (After removing the boot and stick)

Is the recommendation the same for the manually actuated transfer case? Although I realize the transfer case is smaller, it might take a pint more insread of a quart? Or less than a pint extra?

Any advise? Coming up on 25,000 miles

"Inspect the front and rear axle
surfaces. If gear oil leakage is
suspected, check the fluid level.
If using your vehicle for police,
taxi, fleet, off-road or frequent
trailer towing, change axle fluid"

Yeah. I'm wondering if the 2013 manual is different than other years. Mine is like Kirwins. Both 2013

Same words in the 2016 diesel supplement manual page 321. Maybe people are missing the asterisk. That is where it states the 20K mileage interval. Since the table is divided up in 12K intervals obviously it doesn't fit into the grid very well. The asterisk takes you to the note at the end of the table.

I would HIGHLY advise changing the rear differential fluid at 24K or before especially if towing heavy as i do. I changed mine at 24K and was VERY dark. I was having grabbing issues with mine the last 2K while towing. I sent a sample to Blackstone.

I changed my 11 to AMZ/OIL 75/110. At 65K with at least 50 on the lube and it was a light golden brown.

The gears on this 15 are highly polished looking at 24K and the 11's still had machining showing at 65K.
