have 2005 ram 4by4 one ton.box leak is getting bad.now red head or what?.will the orther boxes fit up with out alot of work.truck is stock, tow 12000lb 5w.thanks,money counts.

Dodge upgraded box will work fine. Both RedHead and Boregeson have boxes that will fit and work. Of the 3 I would choose the Dodge box again.

You might have to upgrade the linkage to the t-type if you still have the older y-type. The cross over pitman arm used to be available but sure it is anymore.

That is a 4 year old thread, the status quo isn't a lot of times. Mine did NOT come with the tie rod end. I was told that was no longer available.

My Dodge box came with two ends - so it could accommodate upgraded or non-upgraded steering on my 7.5. The box is a monster. Much better than stock.

Did the end for the Y type have a part number? I don't think there was anything on the paperwork that came with mine a few years ago. It sucks if we are forced to switch back to the T type linkage just because the pitman arm rod end is no longer available. I've sworn to never give Dodge anymore money for steering parts. Fool me once (T linkage), fool me twice (uber steering box), they are not going to get me again. At least Moog now has an alternative to the POS Dodge T linkage if we are forced to use it: DS800981A is the complete T linkage and if you shop around it can be found for as low as $250 (rockauto), though Moog quality is not what it used to be either....

For the box MoparAmerica has it for $578.31 plus $75 core: http://www.moparamerica.com/oe-mopar/68170214aa

Synergy also has a Dodge steering upgrade option:

I misspoke as far as the two ends. IIRC the box is set-up for the updated linkage and if you have the old linkage there is a rod end for that so either way you're covered. Not two ends in the box.

I'm running the updated steering and no problems so far. That's a good price for that box.

Thanks Freebore. Dodge must have a part number for that rod end, but it was nowhere to be found on the instructions you posted. I wonder if the only difference between the ends is the thread size/pitch. I'll dig out the old T linkage laying around here somewhere to see what thread is on it's rod end.

That synergy kit looks nice. It is a bit pricey though and it suffers the same issue that lead to all the Dodge T linkage recalls: the drag link wants to rotate the tie rod. It appears the Synergy linkage addresses the rolling over of the tie rod (they call it "flop") by using a "wobble stopper" limiting spacer on the right rod end.

Dodge finally got it right starting in 2013 / 2014 when they connected the drag link to the steering knuckle instead of to the tie rod. http://blog.dieselpowerproducts.com...nt-end-fix-weve-all-been-waiting-for-from-ram Anything less than a true crossover design like the newer trucks have is just a different style of bandaid, not a true solution. Unfortunately I know of no crossover kits for third gens that will work on stock height trucks. That being the case I'll stick with the Y type linkage and if that becomes impossible to source parts for then I'll switch to the least expensive aftermarket T type linkage.

What would be great is if the 2014 knuckle is a bolt on for our trucks so we could have crossover steering with factory parts. Both years use the same upper ball joint so the upper taper in the steering knuckle is the same. The rest of the parts are different, but that doesn't mean the dimensions on the knuckle are not the same. If I hit the lottery, and after fixing everything else thats wrong with the truck, I'll buy a 2014 knuckle to see if it would be possible.
