I was talking to a Ram salesman yesterday and he said that the dealerships would void your warrantee if they discovered a aftermarket air filter installed.
Has anyone else heard this? I was considering a K&N air filter.

An aftermarket filter that meets the OEM specs will not void the warranty. I have no idea if the K&N filter meets OEM specifications.

The dealership does not have the power to void your warranty, that can only be done by corporate. That being said there is no good reason to run a K&N,if you have any issue that can be traced back to your filter choice the repair will be on your dime and your warranty can be restricted.

An oiled foam air filter will most likely dust out your engine.
Theyre usually ok with normally aspirated gasoline engines, but Turbodiesels seem to suck dirt right past the element.

There really is NO reason to use anything but the Cummins approved Fleetguard air filter, (or the Mopar/Napa/Wix version of it) as it flows PLENTY and does an excellent job of filtering the air that your Cummins needs.

That being said, if you DO want more bling, then be sure to go with a dry style, replaceable type filter that meets or exceeds Cummins specs. The K&N does NOT do that and unless maintained and oiled IMPECCABLY, can do harm to your motor in addition to flowing more air, it can "flow" more dirt.

Isn't this the 4th Generation 1500 EcoDiesel Forum? :)

Guys, You've brought up some good points. I appreciate you sharing you knowledge, at 67 years of age I still don't know it all. What I do know is a Cummings filter won't work.
