Trying to find a new heat ac switch but can't find one for my 1998 with mirror heat . Did 1998 have a mirror heat option originally ?

IIRC, my '98 did. The only reason I remember at all is that it was the only thing that immediately started during an ice storm near Austin, TX when I was visiting one winter. I believe the switch was separate from the others.

Well, my memory partially failed me. I pulled up the FSM for the '98 and read the following:

"The heated mirror switch, heated mirror indicator
lamp, heated mirror electronic timer/control/logic circuitry
and heated mirror relay are all integral to the
heater and air conditioner control assembly, which is
located between the instrument cluster and the radio
near the center of the instrument cluster bezel on the
instrument panel."

My mirror heat hasnt worked for a few years. Some have said you have to replace the whole dash module. I can hear the relay click in the dash and not sure I buy that. Havent taken the time to see if there is any voltage at the mirrors though.

If the relay is clicking I'd say the switch is ok

Have you looked to see if their is a fuse in the circuit somewhere. Does the light come on???

Also I had the heaters on my 2001.5 quit and I took it out and spray the switch liberally with contract cleaner from the outside hoping it would flood in and clean the contacts. It worked. The part is a complete piece and use to cost $175 dollars.

The light does come on. Its been a while since Ive looked at it. But I remember there was a fuse common with something else and the something else works. I may try your idea though about spraying with contact cleaner. Its my understanding that the whole dash module (is that the right terminology for the unit ?) is a complete piece and therefore probably not available anymore.

No need to work on the switch if the light comes on and goes through the 15 minute or what ever cycle. There is a relay in there that you heard that could be the problem. Or something with the heads, are they both not working?

I no longer have my service manuals as they ran off to Sequim with Old-blue. Seems the timer and relay pick circuit have voltage, I would think the heater circuit through the contacts of the relay would be fused. Let go look for my old post.

Still no wiring diagram. However here is my post on cleaning the switch. NOTE: I did not get the light on / timer running indicator. If someone can post up the wiring diagram, I should be able to point you in the right direction. So we have hijacked the OP thread!!!!

Did you ever get the heated mirrors figured out?My heated mirrors don't work either, but I can hear my relay click when I press the button. What is the light you guys are talking about that comes on?

I got some contact cleaner out today and shot the hell out of it & worked the switch a bit. Works fine now.:)
I also gave the cruise control a few squirts, as that's sometimes a bit sticky. That's better too!
