My 1998 12v only has 154,000 miles on it but due to the wonderful Socialist state of CT and the crap they put on the roads [pure salt plus liquid pre-treatment] the body is in crappy shape.

I'm looking to to find a rust free cab, fenders, etc. Put them on my truck, switch VIN tags on dash and door column and it's done. I've found a '98 V-10 truck with low miles in a rust free state for
a good price.

My question:
How hard would it be to just buy this truck, drive it home and swap out the V-10 for my 12v? I should mention that the V-10 is an auto and 4wd just like mine.

PS. I Don't want to hear from the "VIN Police" Ct has the worst DMV in the country which is why I register my trailer in Maine.

Thanks

The Cummins will bolt in place of the v 10 truck ,as far vin swapping your on your own on that but the party's will swap out as I'm doing the same job

On the gasser, pull the V-10, pull all of the engine wiring harnesses, pull the PCM, pull the PDC (underhood fuse box), pull the radiator and condenser, pull the intake heater relays (or replace them with better relays). Do the same on the diesel (and the charge air cooler), and connect it all to the better truck. Swap the instrument clusters. That should be about 80% of the effort. Maybe swap the fuel tanks, but almost certainly swap the fuel lines. The rest will likely be tracking down electrical gremlins. While you have the engine out (and that weight off), replace all of the front and rear suspension bushings.

Just a weeeeeeee bit of difference in those two statements. So, I guess it's not "JUST LIKE MINE".

Big Papa
I beg to differ. No contradiction in those two statements. The first refers to the drive train [transmission, 2wd vs 4wd]. The second refers to body styles. I think you extrapolated the "JUST LIKE MINE" into me stating the truck in it's entirety was identical to mine.

Yes, I did, just like 95% that read it would do. That's why several posted to just swap bodies. If we'd known they were different, we would not have posted as we did.
