Because the center of the filter where any contamination would likely end up (i.e. foil or plastic bits from the oil container....which is where this all started) is the "already filtered side". Therefore, anything that ends up there, gets pumped through the engine. The biggest issue reported was bits of foil from oil containers plugging the small oil "jets" that cool the pistons. A tiny plug here will burn up a piston.

I've seen documents from Cummins and or Ram stating both pre-fill, and to not pre-fill. I'm not sure of the most recent procedure.

I saw some place where they recommend filling the filter from the outside so the oil is filtered as it moves to the center. That would catch any aluminum. , I would think the most like place to pick up contamination is while installing it.

Clean oil from a clean oil bottle will not hurt a thing. If a vehicle sits for a long period of time it's wise to turn off fuel supply and crank the engine for a bit before starting.

exactly right. The oil out of the jug will be the cleanest oil that engine will ever see.

When I work rotational work offshore my truck was sitting in a parking lot for weeks at a time. Cummins recommends that you crank the engine until oil pressure comes up if the truck has been sitting for more than 2 weeks. I installed a toggle switch under my dash so that I could disengage the injector pump and crank till I saw oil pressure.

When i had my gasser, my fuse box was labeled more clearly. I often pulled the fuel pump fuse and/or the ignition fuse. I did this to prevent theft when out of town.

Don't want to install a switch. Is there a fuse i can pull for the fuel pump (on a 2013 2500?)
